AAC 18 inch Remington 700 308 1:8 twist threaded barrels.

Post by silencertalk »

If you want, call and order part number 101274. $400. Even if they say it is not in stock, order it. That will generate a work order to install the thread protector, which is all they need to ship.

These are 5/8-24 threaded and nitrided black. Because of the nitride, you cannot head space them by reaming. So you check the headspace, and grind the recoil lug to reduce headspace if necessary. An incremental gauge set helps.

I will post photos as soon as I can. It is mostly like an M24 profile but the final 2 inches of it is cylindrical to accept an over-the-barrel silencer if desired.

1:8 is the new 1:10.

Thank you, AAC for making this happen!

(I know I'm NOT Stickman. I have neither his talent nor his photo equipment. I hope this will do for now.)

Well, here it is. My gunsmith just finished it today. I haven't re-mounted the MK4 yet, so here are a few quick shots of the installed barrel. Turned out to be a very nice fit in the original stock.

I'm thinking about having my 308 bolt gun cut back to 18" when I re can it to an AAC can. Does anyone have a 18" barrel in an AICS stock so I can what it looks like?

I might even consider 16" since I rarely get to shoot past 300.

I have decided to go with 16.5" barrel that is profiled in a straight taper from 1.2" to the back of the 300SD brake mount so that it looks like the mount is one with the barrel.

After researching the nitriting of barrel bores I think I might have to go this route as well.

I just saw these advertised in shotgun news, I think I'll be picking one up for the sps tactical after I get my 37mm launcher and my glock 29.

Well I was reading this thread today and saw the link to Midway. After clicking the link, it showed that there were two available and that the barrel was being sold at a discontinued price of $353 vs the regualar price of $400. Well I took a gamble and ordered one. It should be here in a couple of days.

I was curious why it was being "discontinued" and if maybe there is a batch with flaws or blems and this is what I'm getting. Are these barrels not working out the way they were intended to? Headspacing issues, etc??

Well just for grins I checked Midway again and they show "available" and are priced at the regular retail of $399 again.

This just seems odd to me. Anyway, when I get it if it doesn't look right, it will go back. I intend to have a local smith install this on my PSS. Has anyone else bought one of these and had it installed? What kind of ammo are you shooting through it with what kind of results?

Thanks - AACFAN

These are great barrels and work as advertised. The reason for their lack of popularity is that they were released at exactly the same time the 300 AAC BLACKOUT was announced and that has been getting all the attention. So, I got both.

So what type of ammo have you run through your setup and out to what ranges? Are you getting the results you expected? I have an SDN-6 on order and will end up with a SBR upper too eventually. I handload as well and am excited about these current offerings. Thanks - AACFAN
