5.56mm Form 1 Suppressor Construction Pics
Unfortunately, I didn't do a very thorough photo documentation of the construction of my first 5.56mm suppressor build. Will take better pics next time around.
I do have a few more, but to get started here are some crappy cell phone pics of the can in the Wire EDM, one of the Laser welded end cap and one on the rifle.
OUTER TUBE Laser Welded Construction
Tube: 304L SS, Schedule 40 pierced and rolled pipe
End Cap: 304L SS bar stock
INNER CORE Fully GTAW Welded Construction
Blast Baffle: 17-4PH SS, H900 heat treated, asymetric
Flash Suppression Chamber: 17-4PH SS, H900 heat treated
Baffles: (6) 316L SS, lathe spun "AK" type, water jet cut
Spacers: 304 SS, seamless tubing
OVERALL
Size: 1.70" O.D. x 7.5" long
Weight: 24.5oz
Bore: .250" at entrance tapering up to 300" diameter at exit
Finish: DuraHeat Ceramic Flat Black
THREADED MOUNT
Jet 2 Chamber Brake, threaded 22mm x 1.0, 2 point mount
PROS: Uber quiet. Fail-Safe F/A construction. Large thread mount locks up tight, doesn't back off. Minimal POI shift.
CONS: Big, heavy & overbuilt for bolt gun use as a result of 'brick shithouse' construction.

Wicked, thank you for showing your WICKEDLY delightful photos of your 'Liberty Safe' designed suppressor.
I freely admit my envy at your machining skills and the 'brick shithouse' construction result.
Many happy years of safe shooting. Any video?

AK style baffles: notice the hand written notes in cyrillic.
The baffles I formed for this can are pretty much a direct copy of the above. I did not use the 'back-to-back' layout of the AK can.

I knew you would make a can right!!! Great job, it looks really good and am sure it sounds just as good.

Would you mind showing everyone your spinnin set-up; the handles and such.
Re: 5.56mm Form 1 Suppressor Construction Pics
Damn that looks nice. Now how can I post pictures of what I build once my next Form 1 comes back!!

I appreciate the compliments. Guess I should have also included this in my original post:
Disclaimer: This is my first attempt at suppressor construction, but it's not my first attempt at designing & building things. I own a mold, tool & die welding shop. We fabricate, repair and weld precision tooling, medical components and aerospace parts. The design parameters were really just a mosaic of bits and pieces of commercial suppressor parts and construction methods I assembled from internet sources. My specialty is really precision welding. Most all of the equipment and skills required to finish this suppressor I did myself in-house, but a few steps were completed by outside sources (under my direct supervision with F1 in hand ). The wire EDM work and the baffle spinning were both outsourced, as I do not have these capabilities.

Sorry. I was going to build a die to stamp the baffles, but decided against it as it wouldn't draw well in one hit and I only needed six. The guys who spun the baffles are old-school dudes who make fantastic metal 'things' with only wooden sticks and dinosaur age equipment sporting 'War Department' tags. It is amazing watching them at their craft. We recently worked with them to finished these prototype tail cones; you have probably seen them flying on the back of something over in the 'Stans:SRM wrote:Would you mind showing everyone your spinnin set-up; the handles and such.

Now THIS is a K-Baffle to end all K-Baffles!
Compliments to your old school machinists. I can still hear and see the old gang of the 1950's who taught
me more extensions of the English language when they damaged a part than just
the Beaver science courses could.

Yea, unfortunately I think I built an AAC 249-SD. I should be able to make one like this at 20oz.

very impressive work of art thanks for showing.
If you're not part of the solution, you're not only "part" of the problem but, you "are" the problem.

Hi Wicked,
Your job is just impressive. When I grow up, I want to be like you !
You have also given me the opportunity to realize I can read “Cyrillic”. Let me give you some partial translations (you know, those who control Cyrillic – like me - charge for it):
“This device apparently works due to interferences in the gas flow”
Best,
Paul

Re: 5.56mm Form 1 Suppressor Construction Pics
The outer tube started life as an 18" 304/L SS Schedule 40 pipe nipple that was hot pierced and rolled from solid bar, so there is absolutely no seam. Different than 'seamless' tubing. It was spendy, but there's enough left to make an additional suppressor whenever I'm ready. I had to turn a bunch of stock off the O.D. but that was easier than boring out the I.D. I just honed the I.D. to clean up at 1.530". The wall thickness is stepped from .080" to .070" to .060" per side giving it a 1.690" O.D. at the widest point.delta9mda wrote:what is the wall thickness on the main tube?
