HK 51 Stock Mods

Post by grifter95 »

Got a PTR pistol with a form 1 pending and have started looking at stocks. I am gonna do a collapsible stock to allow it to fit in a case that I have. I know the recoil spring and guide rod are shorter than a stock 91. So do I need to shorten the collapsible stock rod/spring? Or can the rod/spring come out of my pistol endcap and be installed into the collapsible one? Thanks.
PS.... I know I have to wait until approved, just trying to get the process down in the meantime.

A little bit of searching would have given you you're answer. But I'll answer it any way. You have to shorten the recoil rod and spring on the collapsible stock. Search For rdts it will help you.

I had a Fleming built register receiver H&K 51 that was shot out. I sent it to RTDS to build into a G3K. Ralph swapped out the rod/spring. with no problem. My guess is he builds more 51's then any other weapon in the G3 family.

I own a V51 SBR and will tell you it is more fun to shoot with a A2 solid stock than the A3 collapsible stock. Like you I bought the pistol and SBR it. The A3 stock was easy to find at the time and I really had to search for the A2 and ended up getting a tip from a friend that an A2 stock was for sale on a site's WTS forum.

The A3 looks cool but isn't fun to shoot with it.

The rod is special...it's cut towards the back with a smaller rod installed and acts like a strut or shock absorber...

The recoil buffer in all 3, the pistol cap, A2 and A3 stocks is different.
