Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
Just trying to figure out what companies make "KAC profile" barrels that are compatible with their mid-length forearms, specifically the Christmas Cheer one? Thanks.
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
i dont know of one with "KAC gas system" but i was thinking that you could machine the gas block and the rail to fit? seems like someone here has pulled that off before?
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
Assuming I did not misinterpret the information mentioned in another thread, it sounded like the rail length was not compatible with all brands of barrels due to KAC using a longer gas tube than most others on their mid-lengths, therefore a KAC-specific compatible barrel or a carbine length would be required, otherwise the integral front sight in the rail prevents the machining of the rail to accommodate others. I had asked in the other thread, but not received a reply, yet, as to companies that state they make KAC-length gas systems since I have not heard of KAC selling just barrels. Alternately, I will also start inquiring about .22LR barrels since any should work since there is no gas tube.
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
I believe Noveske 18" barrel/intermediate length gas system should work.
They just so happen to have a new lightweight SS model out that would be great dimpled
This gas system will take a rail up to 11.13" in length. The mid URX is 10.75".
I'm not sure of any other besides the carbine length that will work.

Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
Is any barrel made by Colt compatible?
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
Colt carbine barrels can be made to fit under a URX. Noveske/VLTOR intermediate is shorter than KAC.
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
Ditto--switch block, dimpled, SPR/M4 mount.rob_s wrote:I was thinking of the same barrel.M16MANIAC wrote:I believe Noveske 18" barrel/intermediate length gas system should work.

Yes, I've done this before with a non KAC style mid-gas barrel.sgtmajor wrote:i dont know of one with "KAC gas system" but i was thinking that you could machine the gas block and the rail to fit? seems like someone here has pulled that off before?

Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
Interesting. I wonder if an extreme chop of an FSB (remove everything that isn't directly related to diverting gas, including the front half forward of where the gas tube stops (yes, the front pin too).

Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
From what I can tell the Noveske will work. They say it can work with rails up to 11.13" and the KAC is roughly 10.75". I measured mine.rob_s wrote:Party pooper!RyanB wrote:VLTOR intermediate is shorter than KAC.
Whats not to work?
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
No need as these are now being made by a few manufacturers, one company calls it a ultra compact gas block and are cut off right at the end of the gas tube. I'll be using one next time.rob_s wrote:Interesting. Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
Thanks for the help. My intention is to find an off the shelf barrel compatible with the Christmas Cheer rail.

I used and FSB and whacked it and it was pretty easy with the dremel.

Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
I was thinking about the DD hammer forged midlength, anyone know if it would work?
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
KAC is the shortest I could find at about .850 long. The others just to name a few include PRI,Troy,YHM and CMMG which are about .950 long.rob_s wrote:Link?JohnnyO wrote:No need as these are now being made by a few manufacturers, one company calls it a ultra compact gas block and are cut off right at the end of the gas tube. Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
My apologies, I was wrong. The Noveske is actually longer. I was misinformed.
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
I see MSTN has a new 16" barrel with intermediate length gas system.
They are reserved for custom builds by MSTN at this time, but maybe just maybe they will change that soon.

I was thinking that this would be great,,but will it work with this rail?

18" SPR 5.56mm Barrel W/Switchblock

In stock.
Price:
$580.00
Quantity:
DESCRIPTION
Stainless 18" SPR 5.56mm Barrel W/Switchblock,(US pat #7,856,917).
--1 in 7" twist improved polygonal rifling
--5.56 Noveske Match Mod 0 chamber
--Extended feed ramps
--1/2x28 TPI muzzle threads
--Bead blasted finish
--Pinned Switchblock with Gas Tube
Weight: 40oz
The Switchblock does not fit under a rail. A handguard no longer than 11.13" will need to be used. Most 11" handguards are slightly longer and may need to be modified.
The barrel ships with Switchblock installed and the dowel pin in place. This barrel is designed for our Switchblock that is 1" long(INCLUDED). A standard front sight base is 1.9" long and WILL NOT FIT. Barrel installation should be performed by a qualified gunsmith. Removal and installation of the Switchblock dowel pin and Switchblock is required to complete the assembly process.

I would like to get an Obermeyer barrel for mine. I will commence the research in order to see if Obermeyer will be able to custom make one for me.

That is exactly what I was thinking.
I do not see any reason for it not to work.
If I could get it in a lightweight 16" it would be even better.
Re: Which Mid-Length Barrel Fits KAC Mid Rails?
I've been thinking of the Noveske 18" SB barrel for my LW URX rail, but there will be a gap. I'm assuming this would be the same for other URX rail. Sorry for the crappy photo I took of a Noveske 18" SB upper next to my LW URX rail, but you get the idea. Note that this gap between the LW URX rail edge and the edge of the switchblock would be about 0.5 inches. If you don't mind the gap, it would work for you.
I'm really hoping to find a KAC E3 barrel so I wouldn't have this gap.. Anyone know a source IM me. Thanks.
