Benelli M3 SBS
Benelli M3 SBS
Any help / insight would be greatly appriciated. I was interested in converting my M3 into a NFA short barreled shotgun by professionally cuting the 19.75" factory barrel down to 14". I have searched all over the internet looking for pictures or forums explaining the process and I have only come up with airsoft conversions. My first question, is this legal if all of the ATF form 1 NFA steps are followed? My second question, will this adversly effect the function of the gun? Third question, recomendations on a good gunsmith that can cut the barrel and move the front ghost sight from its original location to the 14" length. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Benelli M3 SBS
Yes you can with an approved form 1.
It may be a long wait but I will only use Mike at Tornado technology.
I have had too many problems with other gunsmiths.

From his web site
Cut and recrown shotgun barrel to custom length. (NFA rules apply) $65

Re: Benelli M3 SBS
Don't forget 922R.
Re: Benelli M3 SBS
Okay, what is 922r?
Re: Benelli M3 SBS
You cannot make a weapon with more than 10 out of 20 specific parts in/into a configuration that is not importable as "sporting".
Re: Benelli M3 SBS
I was told the NFA process voids the 922R BS. Is this correct? Whats up with the BS regulation anyway?
Re: Benelli M3 SBS
That is just what some people wish it was, simply reading the law and decide.
18 USC 922r
It shall be unlawful for any person to assemble from imported parts any semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun which is identical to any rifle or shotgun prohibited from importation under section 925 (d)(3) of this chapter as not being particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes

NFA Firearms
Those firearms as defined in 26 U.S.C. § 5845, which include such firearms as machineguns, machinegun receivers, silencers, short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns, destructive devices, smoothbore pistols, and certain other firearms
