Best Powder for 9MM subsonic??

Be careful -- low-volume ratio loads can detonate. Mangement not responsible for load data. Use at your own risk.

Best Powder for 9MM subsonic??

Post by Raptor99 »

I know you can use a lot of different powders to load 9MM subsonic but I was wondering if there is any one powder that seems to have a quiter or softer tone to it???

I know not all subsoinc loaded ammo sounds the same. Just thougt maybe someone has come across a good combination with the 147s that has a quieter sound or less pop than the other powders. Thanks guys!!!!!!!!

I find the VihtaVuori powders (N320 and N340) to be very good. Expensive and hard to find, but good.

probably the quietest load out there is the special K "clone" recipe:

N320 3.6-3.8g and 147g FMJ

others use N340 3.9g and 147g FMJ

If you are having trouble tracking down VV powders, I like titegroup powder and use it with good success in most all subsonic pistol caliber rounds(9mm, 357 mag, 44 mag). One of the major claims of this powder is that it is not position sensitive so it should be an excellent one to use in low volume loads that have a large amount of unused case space.

It meters well, is cheap and is plentiful/available in the US, burns cleanly and is quiet.

I'll give titegroup a try, although I have a good supply of N320 on hand right now (8 pounds!). Powder Valley, Inc is flush with VV powders right now, and cheaper than local supply, even with the hazmat fee included.

I just got an email from Natchez that they've got VV N320 in 4lb cans back in stock.

N320 and Titegroup work best for me with 142-160 gn bullets through an AAC Evo.

Have 3N37 and Bullseye that are appropriate for 9mm 147s I think. These remarkably louder than VV N320 or Titegroup?

3N37 is pretty slow. Might be a bit louder than some of the faster powders.

N320 is not hard to find at all. It is always at Grafs and Sinclair.

I use WW231 for 147gr 9mm (and 115gr 9mm, .45ACP, 38SPL)
