Here are some of baffle pics from a QSM 45 can that was sold as an OEM can with the TDI Kriss.

Hope to get a picture of the stack and a couple others today will add them as I get them.

CIA Integral Ruger MK1 pistol. Manufactured for them in 1950.

Not a single marking on the entire pistol. Not even the standard Ruger markings all over the receiver. No serial either.

Overview of the pistol.
Image

Business end of the pistol.
Image

Once we broke the end cap loose(hasn't been opened in at least 25 years).
Image

Layout of the extremely basic washer and spacers. Stainless steel and crudely machined(sharp edges and alot of tool marks).
Image

Overview of the pistol disassembled.
Image

The pistol was pulled from service because it was so loud, all the others were re-cored and are now notably quieter. This was the only one that was not re-cored. Even though it hasn't been shot in years it sounded decent but nothing compared to the thread-on or integrals we have now.

Nice piece of history to get to play with. Now if I could only acquire this for my collection.

This ex-Israeli Beretta has some almost imperceptible markings at the bottom of the grip (The two Hebrew characters to the right of the factory R):

Image

It took me almost 2 weeks after acquiring it to notice they were not simply wear marks, and a good month before someone finally told me their meaning. They said those were Mossad markings. The pistol, however, has all its factory lettering and SN intact.

Qual A Tec/Phrobis rifle and pistol baffles from the original designer in California.

Another view:

From Left to Right: Crimped cone baffle later used in Knight and AWC silencers, first used with a added on ported thick baffle; H&K pattern baffle for 9mm; early thick baffle for rifles and .22 ruger with welded in supports from cut down tubing to prevent collapsing; Second pattern thick baffle for rifle silencers, usually found in very small form for use with "wet" .22 silenced pistols like Beretta 948, H&K HK4 and Walther. Top is Recoil Device for heavy Beretta silencer.

Here is a picture of the Qual A Tec/Phrobis crimped cone spacer with a baffle welded up for Navy testing (not my picture)

Image

Image

Notice baffle one and three are welded together.

These proved to be more durable than the H&K style machined thick baffle with the one piece cone on the back, well at least with rifle caliber ammo. The cut down tubing had to be welded into place to prevent it from collapsing from the heat of M16 carbine fire.

Pretty ingenious.

If you do not believe me on the details, check out the second issue of SAR and check out the article written by Doug Olsen, who ran the Qual A Tec shop near the Navy Weapons Center in Crane Indiana in the 1980's. I was also told that these baffles were the basis for the Qual A Tec H&K P7 silencer for SEAL Team 6. Only one was ever leaked into civilian hands (stolen by a Navy SEAL and registered by a Florida Class 2, who died in a Motorcycle wreck in the 1990's.) Another was found in San Diego on a P7 that was given by Qual A Tec to a local Animal Control Agency for quiet varmint shooting......they also had one of two prototype Amphibian style Rugers (stainless steel), now sadly destroyed.
