Need a cool drop-in stock for my Savage MKII

Post by Baffled »

My Savage MK2 has a functional but boring laminate stock. I want to pretend I am some hyper-tactical uber-cool military dude when I kill rodents and punch holes in paper. Anything suitable out there?

What's the weight difference between the original and the Boyd's?

Well considering that the stock that came on my FV-SR was plastic, there was a noticeable increase in weight after I added the Tacticool. But, since its a bench gun, it makes no difference to me. The comfort and outstanding cheekweld far outweigh any negatives from a little weight increase.

i think the weight difference between a FV-SR and a TR-SR is a little over 2 pounds! keep in mind that the barrel on an TR-SR is 6" longer, but some of that weight increase could be attributed to the stock as well.

That looks like a Mueller scope, what rings are you using to get that height?

Burris Extreme 30mm Low Rings, the scope is indeed a Mueller. A Mueller APT to be exact. They're the lowest rings I could use with the height of the base. But they worked out great. Really like the setup.

Took it to the range last weekend to test it out with my new SS 22Sparrow. There was no POI shift whatsoever and it was spooky quiet. Love this tackdriver.

I think the Savage FVSR should be right up on the list of "everyone should own one of these", whether or not you have a 22 can. Their price and function is just insane...especially once you throw a suppressor on it.

I completely agree. I've been nothing but impressed with my FV-SR. Once I put my SS 22Sparrow on it I was even more amazed with it. Everyone should own one, suppressed or not.

A while back there was a company selling a stock for the 10-22 that had a built in laser. I thought it was a slick idea. You had the laser without it sticking out from the profile in any way. Aparently it wasn't too hot because I haven't seen them in a while. It may be because the company that did it didn't do a good enough job. IIRC it was just routered into a plane-Jane wood stock. Maybe if one were to router a laser into something a little more tacticool, thet it would be ......tacticooler. Maybe something like that would make the rodent's think they got whacked by Bond, James Bond. Last thing through their mind is "Damn, that dude kicks ass!"

My Savage is a stock MK2 with a laminated stock, a can, and a $100 scope. Even with that, it is a laser beam and death to any critters in any reasonable range. Recently, I've had squirrels invade my attic through a hole in the siding, and with this rig, they are dead if they show their nasty little snouts.

I got in on the SnipersHide Group Buy for the Manners T4...yes, I'm going to have a $500 stock on a $200 22LR rifle.

With Weaver Tactical 3-10x40 mil/mil it should be an excellent trainer for my Savage 10FP .260 Rem long-range rifle that also wears a Manners stock.

Boiler, I didn't see the Savage rimfire listed as an option with that stock, the T4... is it an unlisted option?

I think it's cool that you're doing this - the Savage is a neat rifle that performs like a $500 rimfire.

SInce the Boyds is backordered, what other options are out there in the $100 range? just for kicks here's a pic of mine
Its got a Nikon 3-9x40 Rimfire BDC and a Harris Bi-Pod. I also added a cheap comb extension from ATI until I can find a nice stock.

Call me crazy, maybe it's just because of what I have envisioned for this gun, but I like my original stock. Lightweight, compact, shoots like a laser.

Midway has unfinished ones in stock right now, put your own little spin on them if you're so inclined.
