What's the point of this?
http://www.americanspiritarms.com/lower ... -receiver/
Seems kinda expensive for a "partially machined" lower. Lots of really good lowers (that are anodized) for under $100. Add $30 for shipping/transfer. I think you are still way ahead and you will have a lower that is ready to build.
Am I missing something?

Re: 95% lower
Called false advertising. If its any more complete than 80% it is required to go through an FFL and that receiver looks no different than the 80%'s I have seen in the past.gremlingarage wrote:What's the point of this?

More expensive because its not documented and therefore appeals to the people that want to stay off the grid. Supply and demand determines the pricing for it.
There was a point a few years ago that an 80% commanded a range from $40-$250!

Re: 95% lower
Only difference I see on this that others don't have is the threaded receiver extension, thats it. The ad also is harping on the fact that since the trigger group isn't finished it isn't a firearm and thats inaccurate as well. Would love to see an ATF letter stating that, because they have denied that before.gremlingarage wrote:looks a lot different than the typical 80%.

Which part has been denied before? The threaded receiver extension?

Re: 95% lower
Previous "80%" lowers had the trigger area cut out, but no threads for the receiver extension.
ATF side no-go on that, so they started not cutting the trigger area, but are now allowed to thread for the RE.
$129 isn't too bad for a 80% lower. There are instructions and jigs out there. Poor mans route would be a jig and a good drill press and you can complete it.

"poor mans route" would be to buy a completely machined lower.Poor mans route would be a jig and a good drill press and you can complete it.

+1 Poor man's/lazy man's...Palmetto stripped lower, $50 when they have them on sale, tough to beat.gremlingarage wrote:"poor mans route" would be to buy a completely machined lower.Poor mans route would be a jig and a good drill press and you can complete it.

I was getting ready to post what you did, If you can have a turn key receiver for <$100 why would you buy one that needs machine work for 2-3X as much?
Re: 95% lower
Well, I can see the point about "being off the grid" by finishing your own % lower, but if you've already got guns...especially NFA stuff...too late

Re: 95% lower
But when they come for all the guns that they have documentations on you having via Form1/4/4473 they won't get that one!Wahnsinn wrote:Well, I can see the point about "being off the grid" by finishing your own % lower, but if you've already got guns...especially NFA stuff...too late
That's the appeal, no documentation of you having that one!

I think they'll have to take all the lathes when they take all the guns.

Re: 95% lower
I have guns that I've lost over the years, or rusted out, or sold to friends, etc. I don't see why you couldn't just use that excuse for a few guns you have buried somewhere, if a Stalin backed foo man choo type came calling.

There's more than a few friends of mine that call me the "miner's canary" for that very reason!Wahnsinn wrote:...especially NFA stuff...too late

Yep... definitely for the cuckoo bird crowd.... or guys who just want the challenge of it without having to thread the RE and broach the mag well.
Re: 95% lower
I love making stuff, so I'm gonna get an 80% lower eventually, but bad-ass ones in billet can be had for for $99, so I'll get that.
