Santorum would ban porn on the internet.

Post by silencertalk »

“Current federal ‘obscenity’ laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier,” the statement continues, adding that these laws should be “vigorously enforced.”

He will get an AG who will enforce them if elected president.

Seriously?

I would not consider myself a consumer of porn - but he needs to STFU and mind his own business. I can't stand authoritarians. That is not the branch of conservatism that I support.

“Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships,” the statement says. “It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.”

I don't see how it is toxic to marriages, nor even so, how that is his business. I don't see how it contributes to violence against women - even if it did - just ban violence against women. Sex trafficking is illegal already and should be. Prostitution - insane that is is illegal - that hurts woman that either may have no other marketable skill and/or prefer to do that.

He is a moron to think that he would have the ability to do that. Look at all the things that are currently illegal and enforced yet easy to obtain.

Maybe he forgets how votes work (that it's via secret ballot).

What is it with Republicans? It's like they don't want to be president.

Zing!!! Best joke I've heard all day. Oh wait, that wasn't a joke.

On a serious note though. I really don't think I would need a personal computer if internet porn didn't exist.

Porn is the major reason many bought a pc to begin with. Porn did for the PC the same thing it did for the VCR sold billions without any formal recognition.

ya'know......banning porn would probably end up in higher rape numbers and a serious increase in prostitution. then again if as many women watched porn as men did. and everyone couldnt get porn then everyone would have a fwb. they might be on to something. another thought would be; no one has porn everyones bangin their brains out and now we look like china, babys everywhere huge population growth spurt.

damn it :x leave the porn alone. it keeps the baby boomers, the would be rapests and molesters at bay and the workaholics from blowing there brains out. oye

You don't see how porn is toxic to a marriage? Really? I find that hard to believe.

A husband choosing to drool over a fantasy, an "imposible standard", that a wife cannot match... is not toxic?

Perhaps some women have learned to cope or somehow ignore it, but you don't see how it can be toxic?

I understand the whole "don't tell me what to do", but I must say that statement surprised me.

YEAH it affects some but not all.
Its just like saying that alcohol is toxic to relationships and marrages.
What if you AND your signif. other likes porn THEN what does it mean?

People take things to extreme.

No porn and I think that prostitution would go up. If people can't just sit at home in privacy and watch a movie, look at pictures, or watch a live naked broadcast, then they will be making calls to escort services or hit the streets to rent a woman, or rape one.

Pros with pimps are getting it bad but the ones on their own are raking in the cash.

Heck I have seen, personally, religion mess up people's lives and ruin relationships and marrages.

Hrmmm, if Obama gets reelected, everyone's going to be stocking up on guns and ammo.

If Santorum gets elected, everyone will be stocking up on porn.

Why wait? I'm going to go out and buy a new gun, some ammo and spend the rest of the evening downloading porn!

Marriage is the leading cause of divorce.

I believe almost anything can be made toxic in a marriage and I don't believe porn is toxic to all marriages.

I guess I missed this earlier.

I don't see it as toxic to a marriage either. I can understand how some people might think it is, but I disagree. It isn't the porn itself that is toxic, but rather how a person "consumes" it. How they allow their opinion, their standards, and their expectations to be altered by it. It is that opinion, or mindset, that is "toxic".

Using the "porn is toxic" logic, virtually anything on TV could be considered "toxic". For example, a housewife who watches Nightly Business Report and then wonders why her husband doesn't meet those impossible standards for success. (It's much more difficult to become a billionaire than it is to become a porn star) Is it Nightly Business Report that is "toxic" to their marriage? Or is it the wife's jealosy?

Gambling in and of itself is not toxic to a marriage, but an addiction to gambling certainly can be. But notice it isn't the gambling, but rather the addiction.

A man that flips through a magazine and sees photos of models. Are the magazine or the ads "toxic" if he should come to expect his wife to look like a supermodel? Should a woman expect her husband who works 9-5 at the office to look the same as a male supermodel who is able to spend 4-6 hours a day in the gym?

For a lot of guys, porn isn't about what some people consider "flawless" women. It's about women doing stuff they wish their wives were more willing to do. Or women seeming to enjoy doing what guys wish their wife would enjoy more. To that end, unless a guy's wife has a physical impairment that prevents her from doing the same stuff porn stars do, then I'd say there isn't any "impossible standard" that needs to be met.

At least we can agree on one thing. Freedom. The freedom to choose what we consume without the government deciding what's appropriate...

Don't assume that correlation is causation. Lack of respect for each other is "toxic" to marriages.

(I've been married to the same beautiful woman for almost 2 decades (since we were 20)).

He shouldn't talk about banning something unless he talks about how he will fund said ban. And be realistic in his numbers.
