22 cal pistol hosts?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

22 cal pistol hosts?

Post by EMT »

Fellow Suppressor Enthusiasts,
I have just placed an order for a SWR Spectre ll! I am very excited, but I realize that I will be waiting for a long, long time until I receive word from the Fed’s. However, I would like to purchase a new host for my future baby. I presently own the Sig Mosquito and a Browning Buckmark. My question to this learned group, is what other pistol hosts with threaded barrels would you recommend? Thanks for your time, thoughts, and suggestions!

i'm using a gsg 1911-22 and i just bought a ruger 22-45. I have a video in the silencer review section of my Spectre 2 on 3 different hosts with several different brands of ammo. Watching it may help.......or it may not lol. My Spectre is still in nfa prison but the class3 i bought it from has been really nice with visitation rights. I also just picked up a little savage bolt gun to try it on so another trip is planned really soon.

My Spectre II will also be perched in front of a Buck Mark URX, and I have also installed a Hi-Desert Dog bull barrel on my Ruger 10/22 Charger.

For strong no BS host a Ruger pre III (MKII or 22/45) cut and threaded to 4'-4 1/2". Ruger makes a threaded 22/45 but has BS parts and you would have to weld the chamber indicator to make right.(BS!)

For small light host a S&W 2213/2214 is the best I find (the rest are crap  ) and buy the $24 threaded bushing.

Do any of the MKII's come pre threaded or do you have to send them off to have that done? I don't have anybody that i've send things off to yet to have threaded so I try to buy hosts that are pre-threaded

Fwiw I have a factory threaded mk III 22/45 that ive been using with my Spectre II for about a week now. Get a (really)strong magnet and the lci is easy to fix. Pull the pin with the magnet and pop off the metal tab that touches the case, then put the lci and spring back in. done. The mag safety is also very easy to remove with either a dremel or mkII hammer bushing. Mine is quiet enough with standard velocity ammo that the action noise and impact are most of what you hear. Apparently the walther P22 cycles quieter, but I cant see how the difference would justify buying a die cast gun.

I don't remember the answer to your question, but as a side note, for my 10/22 I bought an aftermarket barrel simply because it cost the same as having the stock barrel threaded locally...

Tactical Solutions makes a nice barrel for the Buckmark if you're inclined.

I'm hardly a gun guru, but should I decide to buy the MKIII and want to take off all those safety features I may PM you for some help. Basically what you wrote down about the Ici and hammer bushing is Greek to me......not only am I not a gun guru, but I'm a total rookie when it comes to working on them......I've always shot factory firearms and know enough to break them down minimally for a minor cleaning.....total cleanings have either never been done on my guns or have gone in to a gunsmith for total breakdowns. I'm hoping to learn more about my guns as cans start coming in. That being said even my most heavily used firearms don't have more than 500 rounds through them (and the ones with high round counts are all 22's....in fact I just finished a box of 500 rounds of Federal bulk pack 22 that I purchased about 5 years ago) I hope so shoot a bit more when they're silenced.

Thanks for the info!

Google "how to remove the magazine disconnect from a Ruger MKIII or 22/45"

There is no shortage of gun websites that show you how. I did it with mine with no tools for $7 in OEM parts from Ruger or MidwayUSA. I recommend it. :)
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.
