I have been having lots of fun with the CNC shop at the lower campus at my college; I started taking classes as electives last year and now I am good friends with the teacher, so I get to play with a lot of my own projects!
I am currently waiting to get my papers back to build a solid titanium CNC'd can for my .40, but that is taking what feels like forever.
So in the mean time I have been acquiring parts to build a cheap AR this semester (all DPMS), and as of last week I was only missing a stripped lower. I bought one from a local store on saturday, and had some fun today in the shop before assembling it.. I think I am going fill it in with some paint that I found that dries white, but glows green in the dark, what do ya think?

Great skill to have congrats . The zombie s--t is gay.
Re: Fun with Haas CNCs
I wish I had some access to some free CNC.
The zombie s--t is certainly weak, passe and overdone but maybe not entirely gay. ... not yet. But give it another week.

haha thanks I was going to leave that off, but was persuaded otherwise by a buddy.. Eh, I just like customizing all of my stuff. I am hoping to make my own billet receiver next semester, I'll have to see how long it takes to machine out my suppressor

Post pics when possible. No opportunity to make my own yet but I can still hope.

2 questions:
1) If you have access to a machine shop, why not just make your own lower?
2) If you have access to a machine shop, why buy DPMS junk and just use the machines to engrave it?

My guess is because it is on campus.JohnnyC wrote:2 questions:

I am sure there is little issue with engraving a lower, but fabricating a firearm could throw some flags up.
Re: Fun with Haas CNCs
That is the main reason, I am waiting to be able to use some machines off campus to avoid trouble. I am strapped for cash right now and am taking 22 credits this semester, so I am happy with what little shop time I am able to make; besides, that is quite a project and I am teaching myself to use the machines and doing all of my own drawings and toolpaths, so I am in no rush.
