I want to suppress my ak's

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

I want to suppress my ak's

Post by Kip42 »

I want to suppress my Arsenal SLR 107, SGL 21, and sbr. What is the best can? Does anyone make a quick detach system? Was looking at the orginal 762SD. Prefer a lightweigh durable option. Will send rifle to check the barrel concentrics before adding can. If I have a baffle strike could it dammage the rifle?

Go with YHM.

Baffle strike will only hurt the can since it's already past the barrel.

I'd suggest ADCO or even YHM itself for barrel work on AK's.

And no I don't have an AK or a YHM can yet.

If nobody has told you yet... AK's don't suppress well. Even with a can, they're still LOUD.

Guys. He has an Arsenal AK. It's got those big 24mm threads. YHM doesn't make a mount for it.

Kip42, you need one of these:

Uses the AK's own detent to prevent unscrewing.

Depends on your AK. My Draco SBR suppresses pretty well (for a centerfire rifle). Now my WASR10, not as well, but better than unsuppressed :D

Think part of it has to do with the gas tube on your gun, vented or not. Draco is not vented, WASR is.

I had an AK. Also have a YHM P-QD-SS.

Long story short, I sold both my AK's to fund my 300 blk.

I've seen one AK with a can and it sounded as loud or slightly louder than my .22 with no can. If you want to do it, I say go for it. If you dont "have" to do it, switch and get a 300 blk.

I run my YHM Phantom QD on my Draco AK and it sounds pretty dang good for supersonic ammo, I did run it on an older Arsenal SA85 that sounded quite a bit louder. I will say that an AK suppressed is far more pleasing to the ears than one that isnt.

I've been through quite a bit of trouble trying to fit a can to my SLR-106. I tried the Brevis AK can shown in this thread and found it to be very loud and not worth the weight.

I think the best option at this time is to either check into the Kestrel from Huntertown or find a gunsmith that would be willing to turn down the 24mm threaded portion of the front sight into a shoulder for the can and then thread the muzzle. My experience with this is that not many gunsmiths want to touch it.

If you happen to find a smith that will take the job, please let me know.

I have a standard Romanian AK, a Yugo RPK and a Galil ARM that I shoot suppressed using a YHM SS QD Phantom and I think they sound great. Any rifle shooting supersonic ammo isn't gonna be super quiet but to me it's worth it and the suppressor really takes the bark out of it.
