When something like this happens, she seems happy that we have guns for protection - but of course they are locked up if I am not wearing them. The mother really should have had her guns in a safe.

Now let me analyze what happened:

1. The school did the right thing by locking down - he only got into one or two rooms and then had to kill himself as the police arrived before he could get into others.

2. The only way to have a faster response is to have guns in the school. Police response seems to have been 20 minutes.

3. When we talk about arming teachers - it is silly to think "we are going to give guns to teachers." The women who end up as grade-school teachers are just not gun people. But to have about three people in a school wearing a gun if they are gun people (not allowed to have it off their body in a handbag or desk) - and 2-3 ARs in a safe in the main office and three people who had the combination - that would be good. Think of it like a fire extinguisher - break glass if needed.

As for gun bans - they won't happen nationally but a few states like CT may get local laws. Feinstein is going to float them, they will fail, and we will probably not hear from her again.

We learned our lesson after letting the 1994 ban pass - it was the dark ages, and did nothing for crime - and even if it did something for crime, it would not have been worth it.
About the AWB, I hope that the future will show your words true.

I strongly, but respectfully, disagree. If you want to debate the merits, make a seperate thread. It derserves dissection.
Just say what you disagree about. It seems like you are saying it would be better had the teachers not locked all of the classroom doors.

Sitting targets are not better than children sprinting in all directions and away from the free fire zone. It's a lot more involved than that, but that's the thumbnail.

We might if we were ever at war with Canada or Mexico. Or if China takes Mexico as a beach head.

Yes, that's excellent.

A bunch of 6 year olds running aimlessly in every direction ... the ones that would run at least.

Many would probably hide or cower in fear completely alone with no one to guide them or help them.

That's what every parents dreams are made of, their 6 year olds frightened out of their wits turned out into the parking lots, the streets and god knows where to make do in an emergency situation alone.

Why not arm all the kids before we turn them loose?

Yeah. You're right. Better to keep them contained and make it easier for the shooter to be about his business. I bet you think it is better for everyone to be disarmed before getting on a plane, too.

I have no idea how what you said is germane to this thread. I'm not being confrontational or a dick, I just don't get what you are getting at.

I don't think we should end the war on drugs because it is expensive and difficult to win - I think we should end it because it interferes with liberty.

And I don't think there should not be gun control because it won't reduce crime - I just think gun control is wrong because it interferes with liberty.

As you can see, there is 20% less support for gun control today - after this tragedy, then in 1994 when Clinton for the ban on flash suppressors and normal magazines. The Democrats are miscalculating public support. We are all upset that this happened, but Democrats will be punished for exploiting this.

If we get a new law, it will be background checks for private sales also - and more tie-ins with mental-health databases. Those are the most that gun owners will not fight too hard to stop. Obama has enough to worry about with his health care and does not want to burn up all of his political capitol on this issue.

On average, about 3,500 to 3,700 babies are aborted every day.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

...Jesus Christ and the American G. I.

...One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

Well, I would give it a 30% chance. But I am just guessing.

I still see this as the event for which gun control will be finally known to have lost when this is brought up in January and goes no where. It will break the will of those pushing it.

For some reason I never got traction bringing that up. Most people don't see it as killing, but I believe it is.

May have to more specific on that one. I don't recall you being against post-birth abortions ... capital punishment.

It's because the argument/contention is specious within the confines of the thread's core subject.

I didn't say all killing was wrong, so I don't see a reason to tie abortion into capital punishment.

That being said, I am generally against capital punishment as I don't really trust the govt or juries very much - especially considering that most of the people executed cannot afford a good defense. Also - while killing on the spot to stop certain crimes is fine with me, I am much more skeptical about keeping someone in a cage and then deciding to kill them later. That seems like it is not up to man to decide.

Killing is a complicated topic, I was just poking you for clarification since you labeled abortion as killing but I'm not arguing abortion with you. I think I already know where you stood on the topics because you've posted those views before.

The term "post birth abortion" is just a tongue-in-cheek reference to capital punishment, abortion of life so to speak, no direct ties to baby killing meant.
