They weren't carried in holsters.TPayne wrote:How was the Welrod normally carried? Did any units every carry the Welrod in a holster? If so, does anyone have photos of the holster?

So, maybe a folded up news paper?
Re: How were Welrods normally carried?
I would imagine when it wasn't in immediate service it was probably broken down and stuffed in a pack.

Re: How were Welrods normally carried?
I'd say any number of cunning disguises. Since the grip is the removable magazine, once removed it looks like a random tube. There are plenty of places to stash a random tube.
I'm really hoping someone will market one of these some day, or at least put a GOOD set of prints online. I'd really like to 3D print a replica to see it all work.

This site has a reasonably complete description.

The Welrod differentiates from others in that it is constructed around an integrated suppressor. The entire mechanism is built into an 11.8 in. metal tube with a diameter of 1.26 in. The roughly 3.74 in. barrel ends in a bearing approximately halfway down the tube. Along the five-tracked rifling, 20 holes has been drilled with a .063 in. diameter, permitting the gases to escape into the containing cylinder housing functioning as an expansion chamber. The bearing, best described as a sort of baffle, is provided with 12 holes equally .063 in. in diameter, enabling the gases to further circulate from the expansion chamber and into the deflector system consisting of a series of baffles and washers.

Also quite bad ass.

Given the rather unspectacular ballistics of the .32ACP round under normal conditions, I have to wonder just how good it is from a Welrod considering the velocity reducing barrel ports and the suppressor's multiple wipes.

It was designed as a point blank weapon, it provided the performance necessary for its job.eric10mm wrote:Given the rather unspectacular ballistics of the .32ACP round under normal conditions, I have to wonder just how good it is from a Welrod considering the velocity reducing barrel ports and the suppressor's multiple wipes.

I thought this was a good representation of the wipe/washers ... linked from the same page http://www.timelapse.dk/thesilencer.phpBISHOP wrote:See all those wipes? That thing was VERY quiet.

This is modern photo of how Welrod was carried (or could be carried).

Re: How were Welrods normally carried?
That last cutaway was partially decieving. The wipes usually close up after the bullet passes through in order to keep the gases IN certain chambers, not have a round hole in them as the pictrue shows......OR I am totaly wrong and that was just how I understood the use of wipes.
