ATF Offical: It's now 6 weeks from cashed check to pending.

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

ATF Offical: It's now 6 weeks from cashed check to pending.

Post by wacki »

Had a chat with the ATF yesterday. They are now taking 6 weeks to go from cashed check to pending. Your application isn't even entered into the system (as in they won't recognize your serial number) until after the 6 week mark. Once it's in the system you have 6 months to approval. Total time? 7 and a half months.

I experienced this first hand as 4/3/2013 will be the 6 week mark for two of my cashed checks and the serial numbers are not yet in the system. They can't even look up my application. I wished I asked the ATF official why the change but I assumed it was just part of the gun rush + sequester combo.

I will call the ATF next week (when I'm hopefully in the system) and give an update.

Still faster than when I got into NFA.

Its due to increase in purchasing and transfers nothing to do with hysteria.

Sometimes they stretch time frames given to keep morons from calling every week for an update.

This was the first time I called. I'm just a few days away from the 6 week mark. Both of my checks were cashed.

I know you meant your comment as a way for the ATF pushes back at the public in general, but I'm just saying all of my personally experiences suggests this is a new era for the ATF.

Yep found this out recently also. Took exactly 6 weeks (to the day!) from cashed to pending on a F4 mailed in Feb. Mailed one in Jan that took 4 weeks. Last August, my very first F4 only took 10 days!

Hopefully this 6 week timeframe isn't some new standard procedure, but the trend isn't looking good. Basically an extra month of waiting.

USPS or ATF mail rooms? I know they collect a certain amount of applications in GA first before being hauled to WV in bulk.

Comparing approved dated on form 4's to post marks on envelope. Getting some some form 3's approved in less than 21 says and delay in mailing is longer than approval.

Sounds like the ATF waits and ships in bulk both into and out of WV.

Same....

Latest Form 3 is past 6 weeks now too. Do Form 3s on MGs just take longer than SBRs and Suppressors?

A Form3 is a Form3 they don't segregate them yet.

I had a check cashed on Feb 7, 2013 and it went pending March 8, 2013

Also just had a check cashed yesterday, so we will see how long it takes this one.

its official. both cans went pending 6 weeks to the exact day. just as predicted.

looks like this is an engineered delay.

I have always felt that the delays are engineered. I have had and seen too many forms recently come back 6 months to the day ...the statistics just dont support this to be anything other than artificial.

It's absolutely crazy. This is the one time people are trying to give money to government. If transfers were quicker, hell I'd buy more. If I didn't like what I purchased it would be easier to sell with less of a wait and the government would make another $200 from that transfer. Only the government would make something such as collecting $200 from willing donors so painful. I know many things are form 4'd, I'd be curious to see ratio of suppressors to other things. Suppressors don't hold 30 rounds, don't fire by them selves are nothing more than an accessory that makes shooting more pleasant. Seems the government would smarten up and take as much of our money as quickly as they could from us (willingly), at least before they get our money unwillingly.
