Buffers for suppressed ARs?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Buffers for suppressed ARs?

Post by BlakeJ »

What buffer should I buy for my SPR build? 18" barrel, rifle length gas system. It'll probably have a can on it half of the time.

I am using a standard rifle buffer and it works fine.

This if you can stand not having a collapsible stock. If you need a collapsible stock, the Vltor A5 system is pretty much the dynamics of a fixed stock in a collapsible package.

I learned to get away from carbine springs and buffers, life has been much more pleasant since.

I love my Vltor A5 system, it runs great with or without a can.

I run H2 buffers in a 10.5 223 and 8.0 300BO. No issues suppressed or not.

I run an H2 buffer in my 14.5", 16" and 11.5" 223s with a full-weight bolt-carrier and they run fine suppressed or unsuppressed. Of course, my current can for these is a 762 YHM phantom (read: big diameter bore).

(Edit) As additional info: On my 14.5" (which I shoot most often suppressed), I get perfect 3 O'Clock ejection about 3' from the rifle.

I'm running the Magpul UBR collapsible - with a Spikes Tactical ST-T2 tungsten filled buffer.
No FTE yet.
