jesse james new can, 10db quieter than the best?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

It's kinda cool lookin. Gotta wonder if there is any science to it. If volume is actually more important in the middle of the can?!? Probably not but you never know. Looks like it's take apart too. Probably heavy as sin.

where you getting the 10db claim?

He wins the prize if he is wanting a can that looks like an RPG!

Those baffles look alot like a can we are recoring. No technology behind it and loud. Looks like a motorcycle muffler. He should have stuck with vehicles.

Watch out RJF looks like you have some competition

Holy crap, that is really ugly, and the baffle design looks like something from a 1950's crap silencer design manual with a bunch of extra wrongs added to make it even louder.

Bolted together halves?

That should be strong and light…

Barf.

I'm surprised it doesn't have painted flames or pin striping.

It's not finished, I am sure it will though, high gloss high temp paint with his signature in gold sharpie!

You know that people will buy one to just say they have one.

I never thought I would see something that could make an oil can suppressor look good but I believe we have a winner.

Butt ugly isn't even in the top 3 reasons I wouldn't buy that can.

Ok, I obviously have bad taste in aesthetics. Apparently I like the butt fugly.

At least people like the Saker I have pending.

My 5.56 can is metering 8dB quieter than an M4-2000. Once the patent is finalized I can share details but its not impossible. I will say mine looks better than that though. I am going to try and hunt down the patent.

Your 5.56 can drops the dB more than the top performing rimfire can?

If you are getting 8 dB quieter than the M42000 then the gov will be giving you a multimillion dollar contract post haste.

What were the specs for your testing setup?

With what meter? and with what ammo? measured at the muzzle?

The M4-2000 meters typical around 133-135…

So, minus 8 and we land at 125-127… Quieter or just as quiet as SUBSONIC 9mm through a Ti-RANT 9. (126dB).

125-127 dB with real 5.56 ammo?

I call bullshit.

The bullet flight noise of a 5.56 round is more than that.

Unless you are with Red Jacket, or using their meter...

And, yes, to echo Bender- if you get 8dB less than an M4-2000 with supersonic 5.56 ammo in a can that doesn't weigh 5 pounds…

You should pre-order your private island(s).

Please, tell us more.

What is your bore diameter? What is your meter setup? What ammo are you using? What is the volume of your can?

Hopefully it is a bike muffler. Not for a real weapon suppressor.

Then he could have saved using the great English Wheel shaper and
stolen, I mean appropriated, Monsieur Morin's novel French rectangular design
by simply bolting 4 rectangular slabs, and 2 square end pieces -
like an old fashion toaster.

For baffles he could then slice
thin square 'Nabisco Cracker' plates that would be held in
grooves inside on the top and bottom shelf ... CD storage
unit.

The SS screws bolting all the kludge together like an Erector Set all along
the sides would be so Art Deco, like the Chrysler Building in NY City.

Not effective but certainly novel.

Hey, just start with a Dualit Lite Traditional Design
46242 "CHUNKY" Toaster.

Grounded went football/baby/reloading this afternoon lol

I am testing with the following:

Brüel & Kjær 4944-A mic, LAN-XI front end and i'm sampling @ 102.4kHz.
M855 ammo
1m perpendicular to the bore.

What i've found is the M42000 in my test rig is actually louder than the claimed numbers. For instance I measure unsuppressed at 173dB with a B-duration of something like 11ms. The m42k was ~148dB and mine is just over 140dB. Mind you this is only in my test configuration and comparing numbers from mrf specs to others can tend to be useless unless testing is always consistent. I don't know that the milspec test is even sampling fast enough to accurately measure peak dB.

bore is tapered and off the top of my head I can't remember the volume but I will be happy to grab it tomorrow.

Throw up pics. Sounds like your test equipment needs some fixing. Unless you m42k has been raped by a cutting torch.

I don't pay attention to dB claims because it comes down to people running tighter bores than are prudent. In other words, the M4-2000 could be 6dB quieter than an M4-2000 if we just made the bore smaller. So who cares if someone else decides to run the risk to claim they are quieter? Not that genuine break thoughts never happen - they do, but I only believe them when tested with the same bore size.
