Mine shoots great.
I paid $249 for mine including all fees. $209 before the transfer fee is not a bad price.

I want one in stainless, so I guess I'm going to have to buy a Mark II FSS and shorten/thread the barrel myself. It won't have the fat bolt handle, but I can live with that.

Re: Good price on a Savage fv-sr(at least I. think so)
Mine shoots great and has been VERY accurate ... until ...
Last night I am sitting on my patio with my little rifle topped by a digital IR scope and with can mounted. Am watching a chicken coop that has invaded several times by a predator. The raccoon has killed or driven off 13 of my adolescent chicks this week.
Abt 1 am the beastie appears ... and I pull the trigger.
Rifle goes click ... but is quieter than it should be. Predator disappears without being spooked. I eject the round (a PMC subsonic 40 grain solid) and find it is has no firing pin fall mark on the brass.
What happened?

I'd be interested to know.
Bolt not quite fully engaged or head space problem?
Broken/missing firing pin?

I cleaned the heck out of it today. Had forgotten how crappy a suppressed 22 bolt rifle can get. Probably my fault.
The old High Standard M106 simply doesn't get that crappy in the same number of rounds!
We'll see if the predator comes in again tonight.

A successful predator hunt story is even better than a debugged gun story.

Is a matter of time ... damned raccoon killed 13 of my adolescent chicks.
Will repopulate the coop when the predator is done ... and I have put a strand of charged wire in the outside of the eves.
Believe me ... I am kicking myself for the problem. Rifle had 114 rounds on it since the last cleaning.

Eek!
That doesn't sound like a lot of rounds, sounds like I'll have to keep an eye on my FV at the range

Re: Good price on a Savage fv-sr(at least I. think so)
Is another possibility ... could have gotten the video cord from the scope to the recorder in between something around the bolt handle. Am going to tape it in place to make sure that cannot happen.
I did not see him last night ... but he did make it into the coop ... I think through the eve of the outside space used for storage of chicken feed. The inner coop is wire covered, but I think he could push the door open. I left some cat food pellets inside for bait.
Will fix the eve ... run a charged wire across it and reinforce the jam of the inner door when I pop him.

Re: Good price on a Savage fv-sr(at least I. think so)
Hunted the predating raccoon again last night. Rifle cleaned. Wires taped up so they could not get in the way.
Went out to my porch at 9:45 pm and sat on the picnic table. Put a rifle rest on it elevated at an angle so the rifle rested with a point at the door side of the chicken coop. FVSR was fitted with a poor man's night scope ... a Digisight N550 and a Huntertown Arms Kestrel can. Scope reticle set to the white T with center dot. Range to the coop was around 50 yards. Had checked the sight-in at the same range. Contrast and focus was perfect for the job.
5 minutes after I sat down and turned on the scope ... out pops the predator from the eve of the coop and he starts to walk across the top of the door jam built to house the door into the coop yard.
I hit him once there. He flinched and moved forward and started down from the top of the door. He stopped for just a fraction of a second and I hit him the second time.
Was using PMC target standard velocity solids as I don't have any subsonic hollow points.
Shot was easy with the tools used. Raccoon is dead ... and the endeavor didn't wake up the neighbors.

Any chance you pulled the trigger and missed the accutrigger blade? I have gone a few hundred rounds suppressed without having that happen.eastern_hunter wrote:Mine shoots great and has been VERY accurate ... until ...

Did you cook him down with some sweet 'taters? I hear they're actually quite good.....although I haven't had the balls to try it. I just give them away when I kill em. Maybe if things were tight I'd be singing a different tune, but until then I'll stick with more normal wild game.
I've gotta stop this habit.

... chuckle ...
If things go bad, there won't be a safe raccoon or possum on my 80 acres ... but until then I too will do more normal fare.

Re: Good price on a Savage fv-sr(at least I. think so)
Had something close happen a couple of times. The bolt had been slightly moved up and had extremely light firing pin marks. Now I am constantly checking my bolt position. Easy to duplicate at different positions. But glad to see you got the raider.
