I'm not sure what good putting a hole in either treadmill would do but I'm open to the suggestion.

Perforation may or may not matter on the treadmill, but as a silencer "expert" (I watch a lot of CSI) I can tell you with 70-80% confidence that your silencer MUST have a hole in the middle of it.

Not this isn't generally accurate from a casual conversation perspective... but... since this is an honest to goodness technical thread, for a silencer to be functionally able, it will need at least 2 holes. To be effective, several additional ones will be required.
