We should have cost, MSRP, and a projected manufacture date in a week or so.

In for 3 as well.
Stupid, stupid NFA items.

In for 3 for a 51T.
I just got my $200 AAC credit in the mail as well (2014 promotion on suppressors)

Any update? In for at least 2...
It's always the quiet guy in the room...with a suppressor.

But still would like an "official" word from AAC...hopefully a little sooner (like late Q1) than Q2.The AAC Blast Diverter is made of durable 17-4 SS and is black nitride coated. It will initially be available for the company’s 51-Tooth Ratchet mounts when it ships in Q2 this year, followed shortly thereafter by a 90-Tooth Ratchet Taper version. Expected retail is $150.

I'm hoping for specs as well...length, weight, OD...schen8 wrote:http://gearscout.militarytimes.com/2015 ... rettyPhoto

The 51 T Blast Deflector is ~ six ounces, is 2.5" OAL, and 1.5" O.D. MSRP is still looking like $150. Q2 deliveries.

Re: 51T Concussion Reduction Device like the FERFRANS CRD
Ken at Simplistic Shooting Solutions has been completely validated with industry wide adoption of the concept of the "brake shield"
Originally, it was designed for a specific need: the desire to not rattle one's teeth out when shooting a rifle with a sacrificial baffle/muzzle brake, without the can on.
Since then, it's kind of gone mainstream, even for non SBR and non muzzle brake applications. Always wanted a ratchet capable version of the Brake Shield, but it was just too complicated for SSS to try and do, good to see AAC step up to the plate!

Nick.
With these on the market will AAC start offering replacement certain 51t parts for for sale specifically springs since they are no longer a suppressor only part? It would at least be nice to have a couple of springs on backup as they are a wear item and would be easy to swap out by the user if they were made available.
I know the latches are blindpinned them selves an trickier, but since I hold the button down when threading on and off I would sleep better knowing I had extra springs.

I have a question, how many springs have you worn out, and how many have you physically replaced?
Re: 51T Concussion Reduction Device like the FERFRANS CRD
Mike or Nick,
Any "firmer" date (than Q2) for the blast deflector yet?
Highly looking forward to getting a couple of these.

None but I've observed wear on them and they are easy to remove. I just figured it would be nice to buy a couple for piece of mind like I have extras of every other AR spring/part.NickAAC wrote:I have a question, how many springs have you worn out, and how many have you physically replaced?
Reason I asked is I have asked before about buying replacement springs before and the reason given why they weren't available was they are suppressor parts. Which isn't the case now.
Just curious I guess. Shrug.
Re: 51T Concussion Reduction Device like the FERFRANS CRD
Unfortunately no firm date on the blast shield.
I've never seen a spring wear out, I've seen latches wear out, but no springs. In theory we could sell springs, but like I said, I've never seen one worn out before the latch.
I'm not saying for sure that they will be for sale, but I'm saying that we legally should be able to sell them in the future.

Yes, please.
Having had my latch just replaced (thank you everyone at AAC) I would LOVE to have some spare latches for my 51T devices.

Re: 51T Concussion Reduction Device like the FERFRANS CRD
I think there may be a misunderstanding, we will never be able to offer spare latches, as you cannot physically change the latch yourself, I was talking about the spring.mk23 wrote:Yes, please.

Can I test one of these out? I am local in Huntsville
Re: 51T Concussion Reduction Device like the FERFRANS CRD
We don't have a store front or anything, but there's a good chance you could see one of us at a local range...
Re: 51T Concussion Reduction Device like the FERFRANS CRD
You (AAC) should really really move to making the latch pin a threaded hex screw to make the latch user-replaceable (and easier for the factory to replace). there are SO MANY bad latches out there, and more and more continue to be put out that this would help a lot of people.
Alternatively, go back to the EDM'd latches from back in the day. Those teeth were strong.
The "One bad heat treat batch" excuse is clearly not true.
More on-topic, the latch springs are not a problem or wear item. I've never seen one worn or noticeably weakened.

Kinda my thought on the first part, not dogging on AAC at all as I like their stuff and Nick has taken great care of me twice in the past.JasonM wrote:You (AAC) should really really move to making the latch pin a threaded hex screw to make the latch user-replaceable (and easier for the factory to replace). there are SO MANY bad latches out there, and more and more continue to be put out that this would help a lot of people.

That said it's a legit criticism. I don't understand why my matco ratchet can be used all-day long at work every day but an SDN-6 latch has an on/off life expectancy of a few hundred cycles if you don't hold the latch down.
To your second comment, I realize its not a concern on most peoples radar but I am OCD about redundancy where possible.

Re: 51T Concussion Reduction Device like the FERFRANS CRD
Because the AAC latch is either cast or (more likely) metal injection molded. You can see the cast/mold lines on it. My guess is that mount is so much harder the latch doesn't stand a chance.
I reject your truths and substitute my own realities
Re: 51T Concussion Reduction Device like the FERFRANS CRD
great points, but I want to add one thing, I've worn out a lot more ratchets than I have latches on silencers. I had to rebuild my snap on ratchets once every couple months or so. With that being said, snap on does make the highest quality tools on the market.
And I've seen matco ratchets go down even more frequently.
Also, there are more teeth in a ratchet, and only two teeth in the silencer latch, that contacts all of the teeth on the mount a large number of times, compared to the number of times teeth in a ratchet contact each other in the same number of revolutions. Not to mention the design is drastically different in many other ways.
