What is wrong with this ad?

Post by speed6 »

I got this ad in my email. Do you see anything wrong (i.e. illegal) with it, specifically the pistol configuration ARs?

Besides the "tacitcool" high power scope laser and flash light looking like some wet dream for the ar15.com crowd (not the majority but you know the ones I'm talking about), the Forward hand grip. Has to be sold as an AOW.

Can you do a straight bi-pod on a pistol? I have seen the Ruger 10/22 pistol in stores with a bipod installed no indication of it having to be AOW. Not saying its correct. Also what about the finger groove add on to the ar15 that go over the mag well it basically turns it into a forward hand grip. We all know the ATF makes it up as they go. Seams the area has gotten a little grey, (sig arm rest)

If the "fore grip" is classified as (and intended for use as) a bi-pod then, like the sig brace, it's likely fine so long as used as intended.

Using it as a fore grip, however, would most certainly be a no-no without an AOW tax stamp.

What's wrong? It belongs on arfcom or is that where you got it from.

The forward grip is a bipod, so it is legal. I am sure our resident crooked cop continuity would arrest for it anyway.

Some of the grips are not bipods though, 2 "pistols" seem o have regular forefrips on them\

I wonder if this was just stupidity on the retailers part or some sort of shotgun-news style ATF sting operation.

It is a bipod/foregrip as advertised.

I believe the "bipod" part is retractable into the foregrip.

This is why I have monopods installed on all my poodle shooters. It eliminates the confusion.

Apparently it's true that we learn something new every day.

It would seem that a non-rifle AR with an over-all length of over 23" with a fore-grip is technically only a Title 1 "Firearm" and not a "pistol", "rifle", or "any other weapon".

Perhaps the firearms in the ad fall into this "black hole" category?
