Can anyone buy just one can?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Can anyone buy just one can?

Post by bronko1975 »

I have been researching online and looking into suppressors at dealers in the area. Most of the dealers have very limited stock when it comes to suppressors and none had the ones I wanted. I decided to take an hour ride to a shop I heard usually has some good stuff in stock. When I get there they have the Sparrow I wanted. I put a down payment on the sparrow and told the guy I would be back in a week which is when I expect my trust paperwork from the lawyer. They also had the Osprey 45 HD which is not what I wanted but it sure is super cool looking, but regardless I left without it. I drive my hour home and to my surprise my trust is in the mail box. I waited anxiously for my wife to get home then drug her to the notary. The next day I driver to the dealer and do the paper work for the sparrow then drive home. The whole drive I’m thinking about the Osprey and how I should get it while it’s in stock. It could take months before they get the Octane 45 I want then another 6-9 mo. Fort the transfer. The next morning I made the drive back and put money down on the Osprey 45 and did the BATFE paperwork. 10 min into my drive home the girl at the dealer calls and said she found an Octane 45 in the safe with no name on it when she was putting my Osprey in there. She called the BATFE to make sure the serial # was not pending and asked if I wanted it. Needless to say 20 min later I was back filling out more paperwork. I have never fired a round through a suppressor and I’m already hooked…this is going to be an expensive habit

It's only a 3-4 month wait on a trust right now. Get the can you want, not just what's on the shelf.

I wanted the Sparrow and Octane 45 and I got them both...the Osprey 45 wasn’t planed but I just couldn't help myself.

Now I need to find something I can use on my AR 5.56 16" barrel, AR 7.62 and on my builds I have planned below
1- SBR - 300 blackout w/8.5" barrel
2- SBR - 5.56 w/10.5" barrel
3- AR pistol w/sig brace....cal. and barrel length still undetermined

No. And the thing that baffles me (pun intended) is that I'm contemplating a third, but in a redundant caliber. I used to think the guys on here who did that were... odd... strange... addicted... I don't know specifically what I thought, but it wasn't flattering. Now I'm considering the same thing. What the heck.

For the most part I think I purchased 3 cans in as many days if fear of 41P changing the way the BATFE accepts trusts. The CLEO signature is not something that is obtainable in my city, even though at work I often see the Commissioner in the halls or on the elevator of the PAB Hopefully 41P is squashed or delayed for a few more years.

I resemble that comment

2 .22LR
2 5.56
2 7.62

I only have one 9mm can, but depending on how much I like my soon to be 77/357 SBR, I may have to get another one for my pistol. I'm lazy, and don't like swapping cans when I haul out a bunch of toys at once. :D
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I'm in the 'no' camp, but not just suppressors. All NFA stuff is addictive. I think it is because human nature makes us strive for the taboo. When somebody else says we can't have something or makes it difficult to get we want it just that much more.

It started with a .22LR can for me as well. Then with how easy an eform 1 is, I couldn't say no to a couple SBRs. Today I'm going to pick up my machine gun. If anybody finds a cure for this, just keep it to yourself.

The only thing needing curing is 922(o).

I thought to myself a long time ago. "Hay I'll just get the SBR form 1 and thats it" . That was the lie, I told myself then. Then cam the specwar on sell for 650. I don't need that. 15 minutes later at the SOT I had them working on the form 3. In december they got it and I sent out the form 4. 3 months later I'm the proud owner of a suppressor. Then the addiction strikes again. My "SOT dealer" that is has been kind to me said is a distributor for Silencerco, " Hay we see that you like your rifle can. we can order that Octance 45 HD that you was eyeing awhile ago". My Snake eyes followed quickly. "what you talking about Willis". Also we can give you a discount for it as well, 5% off on the it. At this point I'm breathing heavy and my pulse is picking up. Should I or let it go. Little did I know that I was already reaching form my wallet and "there I was" . Putting 500 down on it with a 100 left to pay when the it gets there. Now I hear the ancient cries of my bank account but they fall on deaf ears 8) . For I am going to be able to suppress all of my guns. As someone I know put it.

"When it comes to NFA items the thirst is real"

Now I have to decided on weather to do a AR-10 build or a Veper 12 SBS with a 11 inch barrel

My most recent Form 4 took 76 days from the time the ATF cashed the check until the stamp was at my SOT. I have five cans. You can't stop with one because .22 is so much fun, and then what about 5.56, and pistol? Let's not forget subsonic 300 BLK, etc., etc. Therein is the problem with the can addiction for which I'm afflicted. My buddy is waiting on a MysticX and says it does it all, but in my humble opinion, there is no such can that "can."

Good or bad, my wife shoots and hunts with me so most everything we buy is always a double. My first purchase was (2) Thunderbeast CB9 and (2) Liberty Mystic. Now she is interested in having a suppressed 44mag and I am interested in suppressed 45 LC, so it will be (2) more cans. Oh and can't forget the (2) Form 1 cans we are going to do for the 22mag. T

Then there is the new rifle for her since she didn't want to rebarrel her old one. Oh, the lathe to help make the Form 1 cans and thread the barrels. And the progressive reloader because we will be shooting more often. Chronograph for making sure some loads are subsonic to not damage the suppressor.

I'll admit that at first for me there was a large wall of getting into NFA. Took me 3 years of indecision but once the floodgates opened its been very expensive. Sitting on 3 stamps at the moment and waiting on the 4th. Started filing fall of last year.

I bought three cans and still haven't got the first one yet LOL. If I'd had the money when SS had the Ti-Rant 9 for $399 I'd have bought one of them too

Lays potato chips.

The act of eating for pleasure, without hunger and often to excess, is called "hedonic hyperphagia."

I wonder what it's called when you buy cans without need just for pleasure?

You got it all wrong. You NEED a can to quiet your gun, man. Most of us just happen to have multiple guns in different calibers....

Something else to remember: all these cans are made in America, so you're supporting the American worker

Can anyone buy just one can?
No. They tend to multiply!

Here's two of mine:

Warlock on pistol, Sparrow on SBR 15-22.

More on the way!

No because everyone needs a dedicated 22LR can on its own.

The only silencer that comes close to being that theoretical all-in-one is the Mystic.
