Individual examiner times

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Individual examiner times

Post by dullh »

Ever noticed how long it takes your stamped form to get back to the gun shop after approval?

The ATF has 30 days to get it back to your dealer, and I suspect some examiners, for whatever reason, sit on the forms.

Example: I have had 4 of 6 Form 4's approved so far. From approved to arrival by examiner:

1st F4 - Jason Bowers: 17 days
2nd F4 - Christina Farris: 10 days
3rd F4 - China Watkins: 8 days
4th F4 - Jason Bowers: 15 days

I consider 7-10 days to be acceptable...but damn near 3 weeks? Come on...the mail ain't that slow...

Thoughts?

Were you even around when the typical approval times were like 6-10 months? 3 weeks is nothing lol.

But yes, typically all my F4's have arrived within 1-2 weeks of the actual stamp date. The efficiency of your regional/local PO plays a part also.

No, I missed all that - I only started "stamp collecting" this past October.

The longest I've had to wait for approval so far was 101 days...I guess I'm spoiled...

I had both mine in less than a week. Check the date of the approval vs. the date post marked on the envelope. Mine were both mailed within 24 hours of approval.

I don't think the examiners are the ones licking envelopes. Approved forms probably go in a stack to be sent out by the mail room. They probably have a giant mound of them to get through and are back logged just like the examiners.

From what I've been able to gather, the worst was back during ~2001-2002 during the anthrax scare days. I've been told by a number of folks that they waited upwards of two years for approvals back then!
