New Ruger baffle

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

New Ruger baffle

Post by Rich V »

Ruger has announced they will market a 22 silencer. The baffle is rather unique, resembles a hybrid of a slant baffle and a 60 degree cone. Looks like it was investment cast, even a full CNC machine center would have a tough time making that baffle.

Thoughts?

I'd expect it to meter somewhere about midway between clipped cones and good K baffles.

Little reason to bring a product to market that won't exceed current designs in some way.I would like to seen it put up against the Dead Air Mask HD22.I think it would be interesting to meter the shot to shot average ,SPL figures along with FRP.

Casting is one of Ruger's mainstay business units: http://www.ruger.com/casting/

The MSRP is up there, if it was $199 I'd agree, but at $459 they better be as good.

MSRP is pretty meaningless, but yeah, they are placing themselves amongst some well established players. This is who's out there in the $400+(MSRP) rimfire range.

$599 - SiCo Osprey Micro
$524 - SiCo Sparrow
$499 - Liberty Regulator
$495 - AAC Prodigy
$495 - Bowers USS 22
$479 - AAC Element 2
$475 - Gemtech Outback II-T
$449 - Ruger Silent SR
$440 - TacSol Axiom
$429 - Surefire Ryder 22-A
$425 - PSD Minilith
$419 - SiCo Spectre II
$399 - Griffin Checkmate QD

I would partly disagree with this. The RPR is pretty new ground for budget ish mass produced chassis rifle. Savage 110BA is probably the only other in that price range. Those baffles are a pretty big departure from most 22 cans I've seen as well.

The Mark II may not be new ground but it is definitely one of the most successful 22 pistols ever.

Damn good American made product at a good price is accurate though.

Interesting baffle but I hate castings. I could easily machine that from bar stock on a cnc.

I thought the interior would be difficult/slow to mill out?

my Spectre 2 was 350 dollars
i got my regulator for 400 dollars
got my dead air mask 400 dollars
and silencer shop has the axiom for 344 dollars

i deal with tarheel guns here in nc , scott is nice guy and great prices

competition is good but i have doubts ruger will improve anything , wait and see i guess, but 449 no way

That's what I'm saying, MSRP means nothing other than showing where a manufacturer things their product ranks in the market. That is the perceived value. However, the street price is going to be whatever people are willing to pay for it. I think the suppressor market is pretty performance driven. Once the reviews start coming out, then the real price will be determined.

I was able to get a Sparrow for $300 and a Spectre II for $150 last year (both new), and they are both top performing cans.

Speak about Mickey Mouse designs.

A blast from the past when real men threaded barrels with dies and
pipe wrenches bringing forth game changing models.

Anyone know what really happened to RJ?

Aside from someone playing Sam Cooke's old song in
the background: << https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBn5aIfZElE >>

Disappointing and sad.

It wouldn't be as bad as looks, a little 3D action on a good 5 axis mill using a ball nose end mill. It would probably take about 10min a baffle to profile the inside. I look at everything from a machinist stand point because I have been machining my whole life, I still work a 40hr a week job running a 5 axis Haas Vf6 on top of running my shop. I like the baffle design but it would be made out of billet if it came out of my shop. Some guys are the Ruger type and some are the Nighthawk custom type, our suppressors are built like the Nighthawks of the suppressor world, its worth the money to some to have a perfect product while others are fine with just okay. :)
