9 mm ar

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

You're better off building your own.

I thought about getting one, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of standardization, and not a lot of info out there. If I was going to, I would get one that takes Glock mags, and now there is one with a last round bolt hold open.

PSA sells all kinds of completed uppers & lowers that you can assemble to make just about anything you'd want.

Of course they're currently out of stock on EVERYTHING!

Definitely think about what you want to do as far as mags go. There are many options out there and this seems to be a good starting point.
There's also a decent amount of upper variations; ie. side charger configs and what-not.

Glock mags seem to be the most reliable from what I've seen. I jumped on the bandwagon with a PSA lower which I've SBR'd so I have yet to assemble or shoot it. Maybe by the end of the year...

Seems as though a heavy 9mm buffer is recommended and watch the bolt and hammer interface to make sure your choices are compatible

You might take a look at one of the Just Right Carbines. Caliber changes are pretty easy and they can be made to take M&P or Glock mags. Mine has been 100% reliable and sounds good with an Octane 45 can. I made mine into an SBR and chopped the barrel to 5". They do have a different thread pattern on the barrel nut so changing out the handguard could be problematic.

I have a 9mm AR that uses Colt mags and a magwell block. If I had to do it over I think I'd get one of those quarter circle lowers that uses glock mags. I found that my 9mm AR didn't suppress that well though simply due to the amount of noise the heavy bolt makes every shot. I ended up getting an MPX and love it suppressed!

I've been very pleased with my QC10. I have one of their first 200 Glock lowers made and have had zero problems with it. My LRBHO has worked flawlessly since day one. I know there has been much talk about this and there has even been some modifications for this since I bought mine. I mostly shoot this with my Osprey and it is a fun gun to shoot.

I'm working on assembling the parts for a 9 mm build and learning as I go. I already have a stamped SBR lower just waiting to get the parts I decide on. I'd love to hear any specific problems anyone has run into with their builds.

One issue is it seems most barrels are 36 threads instead of the more common 28 or 24. I'm already loaded with adapters for my Mystic and don't like the idea of stacking adapters.

I'm leaning toward 8-9" barrels as I have other hand-guards that I can use. Since I reload, keeping sub-sonic is not a problem. Definitely no poly-gonal rifling.

Another is the bottom magwell inserts seem to be easier to swap out if a person wants to go back to another upper.

I had to initially wrap my head around not having a gas block or gas tube, realizing 9 mm doesn't need one.

I had ADCO make my barrel because I wanted a 1/2x28 to. I also wanted an 8.2" barrel (not a common size at all) so that my Osprey would index as close to my rail as possible. Great customer service, quick build/ship time and an overall great barrel.

Can you run a RDIAS in a 9mm? Are the trigger, sear, etc the same?

Don't know if you already found what you are looking for. If not "Rainer Arms" has the Quarter Circle 10 small frame glock lowers in stock and on sale this weekend for $235.08 and free shipping. You can save a little more if you join there Apex Club.

Look at the RunnerRunnerGun Glock mag lowers. Very nice fit and finish. As far as barrels, go to Ballistic Advantage and you can get 9mm AR barrels in either 1/2x28 or 1/2x36 threads depending on what you want and a lot of barrel lenghts. I put a PSA upper on mine and it runs fine. I did change out the buffer to an 8oz (AIM surplus for $40) and put a 308 buffer spring in it. This changed to recoil impulse down to a slow 223 level. Gas in the face has not been an issue and it works with both Glock and Magpul mags. Mine is running with a AAC TiRant45 and a fixed spacer.

I like the idea of Glock mags, but my SBRd lower is a standard one. Anyone know of a magwell insert to convert the lower to Glock mags?

There is a guy (non-commercial entity) who makes a Glock magwell block.
I believe he has a Facebook page for them, instead of a standard website.
Google "AR Glock Magwell" and look for a Facebook address. I'm sure it'll be w/in the first couple results.

Thanks T-Rex. Looks promising.

I had googled it but had ignored the Facebook entries since I can't remember my Facebook signin. Time to figure it out now, I guess!
