300 blackout suppressor help
300 blackout suppressor help
I have a 7.6 inch long ti tube with seven 60 degree cones. It is a direct thread to my AR rifle. Will be using mostly for 300 blackout and possibly for my 308 bolt gun. The question is the distance from my muzzle to the first cone is 1.8 inches, is that fine or too far?
Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
I can't answer definitively, but am pretty sure the answer to that question depends whether you want to optimize the can for supers or subs?
Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
Shooting subs mostly. I have 200gr Egglston munitions rounds loaded with 10grs of Accurate 1680 and it sounds loud yet and getting really loud first round pop. I an thinking of clipping the baffles.
Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
300 Sub blackouts are pretty mild on the richter scale so I treat them like pistol calibers.
308 rifle on the other hand definitely needs the extra room.

1680 is loud as sh!t.troy wrote:Shooting subs mostly. I have 200gr Egglston munitions rounds loaded with 10grs of Accurate 1680 and it sounds loud yet and getting really loud first round pop. I an thinking of clipping the baffles.
About as dirty too.
Clipping baffles won't help that.
If you are confident in switching to a better powder, will give you better results.

Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
Even his 1680 shots sounds a lot quieter then mine.
Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
It's probably the cone baffles. They tend to work better for supersonics.
Subsonic pressures respond better to other types of baffles.
clipping may help a little, but changing powder/recipes will help you more.

Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
Also, there's only 7 baffles in there. My Octane45 is less than an inch longer and has 4 more baffles. 300blk subs w/ 4227 is very quiet. This is out of an 8" AR.

Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
I could fit at least 1 more baffle, which is what I should do as all I would have to do is cut the skirt down on the last baffle.
Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
OK so an update: I put 1 more baffle into the tube and cut the skirt off to fit it closer to the end. I also clipped the baffles. I loaded some 200gr rounds with 10.2gr of 1680 and it was nice and quiet.
Re: 300 blackout suppressor help
3/8" from the tip of the muzzle device to the face of the first cone has been recommended on another forum I am a member of, and has worked well for me on 300Blk.
