Hi guys, I'm checking in to ask what is the best "current state of technology" suppressor/silencer for the 5.56 platform. I intend to use it on a 16" midlength gas system AR. I have a SBR 11.5 and am using the Surefire SOCOM 5.56 (the first generation) and am looking for something shorter, and maybe?, even quieter for my longer barrel ARs.
Thanks for your advice, opinions and input.
Cheers.

If you want quieter, shorter is not going to play. Your current length is pretty run of the mill. I'd say you should be able to shave 3oz from present weight.
Any budget constraints? I hate to recommend a $1k+ can, over a $500 one, for only a couple dB gain.
YHM Turbo gets good reviews and is sub $500.
Thunderbeast are always good and usually $1k+.
Any other suppressors you may be interested in or a specific mounting system for multiple firearms?

Depends on who you ask for what is the "best current state of technology".
Like trex says you can pay or save as much as you want, the difference will be titanium or not, brake mount or not, full auto or not.
The Liberty Constitution is full auto rated and holds its own at the meter against Griffin and YHM. It's direct thread, not titanium but cheaper than either of the others and the YHM is half the price of the Griffin.
The "best" is usually subjective.

Re: Quitest Shortest 5.56 Suppressor
Recce 5 has a very good mounting system, not too heavy and it sounds on par with a 3" .410 out of a long barrel (i.e. not pleasant like a .22 unsuppressed but just on the ragged edge of hearing safe). Well worth the sub-$800 price tag IMHO

Re: Quitest Shortest 5.56 Suppressor
I have a Reece 5 and a saker 5.56, also shot some others. I tend to avoid anything not full auto rated so cant talk on the lighter built cans. But will say the Reece 5 on my SPR sounds amazing, great performance for the size and weight IMO. I'm not sure any Semi Auto with ejection port noise can be truly hearing safe, but sounds better than my Saker from the same barrel length.
It's not a silencer, it's a can of whoopass!

what about the brevis II? I haven't heard one but would like to do a similarly sized form 1 down the road.
Re: Quitest Shortest 5.56 Suppressor
Have to agree with some of the others and recommend the Griffin Armament Recce 5 on a 16" AR-15. I have fired thousands of rounds through mine and if I am not shooting under a range roof or in a range pit then it is even more impressive. In the open or the woods I would not even wear earpro unless I was going to fire over three mags. It sounds really nice, has a great tone and when you are 15-20 feet away from the muzzle... especially slightly behind the shooter, it really sounds amazingly quiet. I'm not sure how they do it because when you look down the big hole it looks to be just a big blast chamber and a handful of baffles.... But it works almost as well as my $1,200 MSRP AWC 10+ inch ThorXL from AWC... maybe even as quiet, there is not much difference.CENTURIATOR wrote:Hi guys, I'm checking in to ask what is the best "current state of technology" suppressor/silencer for the 5.56 platform. You simply will not be disappointed. Silencer Shop or Allen Arms usually has them in stock for the best price.
