CVA Scout V2 - recommend or avoid?

Post by mbogo »

I'm interested in suppressing a .45/70 for shits and giggles.

I ran across this:

Has anyone bought/evaluated/tried one out?

My dad has a 45/70 encore pistol he'd probably sell you. I've been begging him to silence it and add a stock.

I've got an Encore rifle already; I could buy a barrel for ~$300, then pay another $140 or so to thread it.

A CVA Scout V2 costs about $350 @Acadeny and it's already threaded.

I had one of the handi rifles in 300BO and it was fun. The break actions suppress fine, I've also seen .38spl that was also stupid quiet.

As far as 45/70 I think you will be disappointed. I run a 458 SOCOM on 16" barrel with Hybrid suppressor. Was at the range last week showing friend with a lever 45/70 that it is rather loud, even with subs. Friend decided not to suppress his lever gun.

My 300BO had 16" barrel, but balance was very muzzle heavy with a Saker on the end. I think a CVA with 22-25" barrel would be way worse.

My 458 SOCOM is sweet can or not so no regrets. But if I were going single shot I'd go .357, .44mag or .460S&W for the option of .38spl, .44spl and 45 Colt.
It's not a silencer, it's a can of whoopass!

I have a Bowers Vers 458 (for my .458 SOCOM) which is bigger than the Hybrid, so I suspect sound mitigation may be adequate.

This will be a range toy and perhaps a rig for hunting from a blind, o weight isn't a factor.

I looked at .45 Colt, .454 Casull, .460 S&W, et al., but I like the idea of Trapdoor-level loads in the .45-70.

I know JD and own or have owned several barrels chambered in his proprietary cartridges. I don't want to invest another $500 in one I might not keep long.
