Coatings to support cleaning

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Coatings to support cleaning

Post by DumbDumb »

I'm interested in input regarding coatings or other prepping of suppressor internal components to reduce fouling and aid in easy cleanup.

I've read that spraying with PAM (cooking spray) or similar will do the job.

All input appreciated.

Thanks.

White lithium grease on the first couple of baffles helps a lot, remains useful towards ease of cleaning for a few magazines' worth of .22lr anyway. Some people have baked baffles in a tin of mineral oil and reported success - there's a specific procedure outlined for cleaning and soaking somewhere. I can't imagine it'd make a lot of difference but perhaps... Cooking sprays are made to lubricate without burning too much up to a few hundred degrees, so perhaps they're a viable option.

DOT 5 Brake Fluid:

Its dry boiling point (no water present) is 260°C (500º F)

"Due to these properties, DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid is widely used
by the military. It meets Mil-PRF-46176 & Mil-PRF-46176B."

Historian:
Do you happen to know if DOT 5 silicone brake fluid can be stored and used in a plastic spray bottle?
Thanks.

I cannot see why not. In fact it comes in the standard
'plastic' bottles.

For example: << https://twistedchoppers.com/shop/wilwoo ... gJg5fD_BwE >>

I use EVO olive oil sprayer for many oil-misting:
e.g. << https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015C ... 5RDQ8JR3CG >>

Caution: Mark the spray bottle so that it will not be mixed up with food sprayer ...
unless may be at socialists cook outs. :) :) :)

When you wish to coat metal parts with DOT 5 consider heating them safely with
heat gun and then coating them with DOT 5. Many have reported that lead crud
easily scrapes off. And another factoid, parts need not be surgically clean.Like
comfortable worn work boots. :)

Best.
