Ran across this most informative video from RIA on
the 1965 ChiCom silenced pistol. Close to 50 years ago
one of these was 'acquired non-voluntarily' by an
esteemed Force Recon young Marine on a jaunt.
It is a unique suppressed pistol that was specifically
made as a unit. The simplicity of the mesh innards
along with the 'maze' chambers configurations should
be of interest to some from an historical perspective.

Re: 1965 ChiCom Silenced Pistol
There is also a report on this pistol written by Mitch Werbel of M.A.C. fame for the military. This weapon is also mentioned in the Paulsen series of books.
To the best of my knowledge at least two items are missing from this pistol (felt washers) x (oil). The first wet military design! Its interesting that the agency followed suite with a 9mm wet suppressor introduction in the late 1960's.The addition of oil made wipes last a much longer time and allowed for ever smaller designs.
As a gunsmith and student of the gun I find the design a wonder to behold. The gases exit the barrel and meet the first and only conical baffle. The gases that pass this point encounter oil impregnated felt washers and rubber baffles (wipes) (a high back pressure point. The space between is the vent leading to the anti-chamber that feeds the gas/oil mist to the barrel breach and then forward around the mesh packed barrel. That is absolutely a genius design! Its amazing the motivation a gun to the head creates.

The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

Re: 1965 ChiCom Silenced Pistol
I second the Good Captain's evaluation " ... That is absolutely a genius design!
Its amazing the motivation a gun to the head creates."
The way that the gas pathway doubles back onto itself into the lower
chamber made me remember with a chuckle the limerick which
starts: "There was a young man from Kent
Whose tool was so long that it bent.
etc., "
It is sorrowful that there will not be a third volume of Paulson's series
Silencer: History and Performance in which he was going to
delve into the next phase of suppressor evolution.
As with most authors there is a high probability that there
are first drafts lying around. Would it not be wonderful if
someone could contact his estate to see if draft exits so
that a team could flesh out and posthumously publish in his honor.

Re: 1965 ChiCom Silenced Pistol
I feel somewhat cheated by Paulsen, I bought the series on his promise of three. A third book is a sure money maker and so what if the information is dated.
I wonder what the type 64 would meter. I can think of some changes that may increase performance.

I've always wished someone would reproduce the type 67
