.223 vs 5.56 which is better for Hunting?

When we talk about .223 and 5.56 both are identical in shape. In fact, we can load a .223 in a 5.56 chamber and both cartridges are widely used in AR guns. So the question is. Is it possible to hunt big games like a Bear or Deer in any of these cartridges or? Is there any step by step AR 15 build guide for Hunting purpose?

The .223 is the more common hunting round used mostly for ground squirrel. Neither cartridge is ideal for hunting big game nor is one superior. A carbine in .44mag or .45LC will anchor deer or black bear with far more authority than the heaviest load the .223/5.56 can handle.

It's technically possible to kill a grizz with a 22 LR. Bella Twin actually did it! But you wouldn't really want to, of course.

The 223/5.56 is an intermediate cartridge designed for combat. While it's capable of taking a deer it does kind of limit your range to 100-150 yards if you obey the 1,000 ft lbs rule for ethical deer hunting. You can definitely extend that range to 400 yards with good shot placement. Like Capt. Link. says, there are much better options for deer hunting. If you do want to hunt deer with a 223/5.56, I'd say get the longest barrel possible to maximize muzzle velocity and a bonded or monolithic bullet to get the best penetration you're able.

Up until the late 1960's Eskimo's used the .22 Hornet on Polar bears. Accuracy and field craft made up for it being spit wad against a Goliath. I'll use my Barret and lots of distance thank you! Its said that 1/10 of a amp can stop the heart yet the state is willing to use line current with Old Sparky to ensure customer satisfaction. Don't mess around kill them clean and quick.

Is it possible?? Yes.

Should you?? ? You need to check with the DNR of your state to see what is allowed. A lot of times they tell the minimum size caliber allowed for hunting certain game. Main reason, they do not want a wounded animal running off. They want a caliber with enough knock down power to drop them quickly. Also for yourself, you do not want to have to track a wounded animal for a long time and possibly into other peoples property.
