New Toy Wanted - Help Me Make My Decision

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Wipes - I have a DeGroat Nano and replacement wipes are not additional stamps. That said it was designed around wipes. Having said that, wipes (in this day and age) better mean it is a purpose built micro can b/c it is inferior tech compared to today's modern full size baffle structure.

Versatility - so I did it all wrong. I bought a single point (screw on) .30 mag can first - SS SRT, then a QA short, light 5.56 - Surefire, then a Nano micro 9mm, a non take apart .45 ACP - Osprey, then a Sparrow rimfire, then a AWC Thor Ti .30 Mag, then a Octane 9 mm.

Granted, a lot of stuff was not available then - but if I was starting today, I would get a Ti .30 mag (single point) and take it easy on the firing schedule for a 5.56 gun (don't do mag dump after mag dump to keep the heat below @ 750), and I would get an SWR .45 Octane. From there I would back fill. For me I would likely start with either a Sparrow or a Spectre II, and then a short light 5.56, then a dedicated 9mm. In the end I have to admit I have shot my Nano only a handful of times and would likely pass on it if were to do it again (not because it doesn't work as advertised, but b/c it is a niche can and I don't really function in the niche).

Nutshell - .30 mag and a take a part pistol can.

Good luck

ETA - get a magnum rated .30 can, the little extra in size, weight, and cost is well worth it. Also, be aware that with full power ammo all rifle cans effectively sound about the same for the given construction material (stainless steel or Ti). Lastly, if you shoot long and want to put this on a precision stick - single point cans are inherently more accurate, and they are some companies that produce cans that enhance accuracy by design more than others.

ETA2 - as for integrals - some day I will have either a Professional from Doug http://www.srtarms.com/ or an Amphibian from AWC http://awcsystech.com/silencers/integral/amphibian.html - only b/c I see more practicality from an integral pistol than an integral rimfire rifle. Although, I like the idea of an integral .45 ACP, and of course an AIAW Covert.

I have a Poseidon, replace wipes all the time ... again designed for wipes.

I don't claim to understand it myself, you'll have to ask -B- for the details.
