Need advice on a 5.56 suppressor

I am looking for a QD 5.56 suppressor under 16 oz. that is hearing safe on a 11.5" sbr. So far I've considered the Specwar K, Omega w/ 5.56 endcap, and the Griffin Recce 5. Even after talking with some dealers I'm not sure which would be the better option. Sound attenuation and durability are the primary consideration beyond meeting my original criteria. Or am I asking too much for my application?

The biggest hang-up you're likely to have is the "hearing safe" portion of your request. I've often heard it said that a suppressed AR sounds like an unsuppressed 22 rimfire.... and that isn't particularly quiet. To be sure, it's quieter versus not suppressed, but I don't think anyone is going to call it 'hearing safe'.

I realize that this may not be particularly helpful since it doesn't point you in the right direction, but your order is a tall one, and I don't know that it can be filled.

Absolutely what Trooper said, plus, what is your requirement for durability? Are you going to run full auto? Mag dumps? Do you, realistically, plan to put 10K+ rounds through it? Do you have other cans and you're trying to consolidate to a common QD mount?

I think you're making a very tall order. QD systems add a lot of weight to a can. Non-Titanium cans under 16oz are all K-length and not very quiet. There are some full size Ti QD cans in your weight range like the Gemtech G5 Ti but I don't think Ti is the best choice for any hard use on an SBR. And honestly, no 11" AR is hearing safe anyway due to 144dB ejection port noise.

If I throw out the 'hearing safe' factor which of those three cans do you guys think would offer the best attenuation and durability (no full auto, no mag dumps but some rapid semi-auto fire)? The Griffin is all stainless so it would seem to me to be the least durable without an Inconel or Stellite blast baffle, or am I wrong to presume that? Should I be considering other cans besides these three?

Thanks.

I'd go with the Omega since it's multi cal with 7.62...

Echo the other responses... I ended up going with a Surefire SOCOM mini for my 11.5". Not "hearing safe", but close enough.

I originally wanted (and bought but never received, but that's another story) an OPS Inc. M4-S. It's purpose built for the 11.5" barrel profile. I believe Allen Engineering started reproducing OPS Inc's cans, but I am not sure about the M4-S. If you can find one, its a great can: http://opsinc.us/suppressors/M4-S.html

It's not under 16 ounces but definitely worth taking a look at...

Saker K with direct-thread mount is an awesome choice for SBRs. Very durable and good sound while being a bit lighter and smaller than with the MAAD mount.

I'm leaning strongly toward the Omega. Apparently with the 5.56 endcap it isn't much longer or heavier than the Specwar K. Thanks for the input.

If you're still interested in opinions, Saker K or Specwar K get my vote. I like the Saker K for the lighter thread attach option. The ability to add a flash hider to the front of the can intrigues me as well, as every can I've ever shot has had quite a lot of flash at night compared to A2 flash hiders, especially on the first shot.

The Omega is louder than the Specwar which contradicts your OP...

Has it been said?
NOTHING is hearing safe on a 11.5"

Yes, I realize that most likely no suppressor will be hearing safe on that barrel length.

The test videos and commentary I've found seem to indicate that the Omega is quieter than the Specwar K. I would be interested in information to the contrary.
