House puts pro-gun amendments in must-pass DOJ funding bill

With president Obama likely to veto stand-alone pro-gun bills from Congress, the republican majority House has adopted an Obama-neutralizing strategy. They are attaching pro-gun amendments to the must-pass DOJ funding bill.

http://thehill.com/regulation/243845-re ... gun-riders

These bill riders include:
1. Prohibit ATF from going after more types of bullets (ammo) to ban, like their recent M855(SS109 bullets) attempt.

2. prohibits ATF from collecting 'extra' semi-auto rifle sales info along the SW border states.

3. prohibit ATF from collecting race and ethnicity info on gun buyers.

4. maybe a Fast & Furious rider prohibiting federal agents from giving guns to drug cartels (like they gave to the Sinaloa cartel in exchange for intel).

Yea, the House republicans are finally using some of their majority power to do some good things. :)

Here is the text of HR2578... I can't find anything in there specifically addressing anything that could be considered pro-gun.

You need to go to the non-PDF page for the Bill and click on the amendments tab, or better yet, the Amendments Agreed To tab. The PDF you linked just had the text of the main bill without the amendments. There are 51 Agreed To amendments--happy reading.

Considering how many amendments cut funds from DOJ and BATFE (and DEA as well, actually) I find it somewhat amusing that it's referred to as a "funding" bill.

Hopefully this is as "must pass" as the ACA and it gets signed in to law without too much reading by the Anti's.

For the first time in a long time, I'm glad line-item-veto isn't available at the federal level.

Need another amendment to stop BamBam's reinterpretation of ITAR.

I'm actually surprised the ITAR thing hasn't popped up on here elsewhere already. I'd have figured that since much of this website is dedicated to open discussion of "soon to be ITAR protected" data it would have been a bit of a hot button...
