Looking to get my first silencer, probably an Omega. This is will primarily going on a 5.56 AR-15 with 1/2x28 threads. The Omega 1/2x28 direct thread mount is $100 (that is pretty ridiculous for a simple little machined part) but a 1/2x28 to 5/8x24 adapter is only $25. Is there any downside to going with the cheaper adapter?

If it works then it works and you saved ~$75.

If it doesn't work then your out $25 and maybe have a voided warranty.

if you're not already familiar with the concept, read up on tolerance stacking.

Will probably just stick with the real thing. Besides I'm trying to shave every ounce possible.

I use an Gemtech adapter with my Gemtech Sandstorm when running it on an AR or Sig 556. Never a problem.

Welcome to the NFA world. Nothing is cheap. Even with adapters and mounts. Just have your wallet always ready lol.

One thing you want to avoid is take shortcuts to save a few $$. Always avoid unnecessary adapters. They can change POI due to tolerance stacking.
