Rimfire

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Rimfire

It seems to be the consensus that K baffles with a small blast chamber is the best setup for 22 rimfires. Would this also apply to 17 Mach II ? A rimfire but with a lot higher velocity.

At over 1235 fps from empirical reporting the K's with
a 1.25" x 8" can ... a calibration of 'one' ... helped tame
round.

It does bring up the interesting thought of how the
new Ruger 'hyper surface' baffle might markedly lower
Db.

Interesting if anyone like Fireman has tried the new Ruger
on said weapon.

This 'home-brew' section is energizing ... and will improve
when HPA passes allowing real innovations and testing.

I would think a purpose built K can for .17 caliber would work well. The use of 7 to 8 baffles is standard for most builds with a top count of 10 for extremists.A clipped cone may also be useful on this caliber but have not researched that yet.
The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!
