Has anyone seen this intriguing YouTube on
a 'non-baffle' suppressor design?

"INSANE NEW BAFFLE-FREE SUPPRESSOR IS
AS BADASS AS IT LOOKS,IT BLOWS ALL OTHERS AWAY
"

I am impressed. If it works as shown I hold Russ Oliver in
same class as Jean Cantius Garand, Ronnie Barrett, David Marshall (Carbine) Williams.

Interested in thoughts on this.

Best.

OSS suppressors came out a couple of years ago didn't they? At a trade show in winter, 2014/2015. Since then they've been tested and reviewed a fair bit. They're loud-ish, but they do what is claimed, namely moderate suppression without gas and crap in the shooter's face.

Didn't they get destroyed in formal testing? Their cans kept failing and even ruptured.

"We don't test 1m left of the muzzle"
So, you change the rules to make your numbers look better?

I'm waiting on 3rd party testing of the SAS Claymore. Their claiming some outstanding numbers, left of muzzle and 6" from both ears.

Thank you brother Doubloon for pointing to destructive-test video.
It seems that the barrel will wear out sooner.

Hopefully when HPA is soon attached to a must-pass bill we will be
able to extrapolate the flow-thru concept to smaller calibre cans.

Cleaning out old filing cabinet this weekend found old 1960's notebook
of sketches that included starting with the snorkel-can concept of the
1960 'unicorn' Parker Hale can and the larger version found in the
"Silencer History and Performance, Volume 1 &2" . Helically twisting
bundle of 'drinking straws' of varying heights ( e.g., church organ
tubes ) around the snorkel, venting through holes in the end cap.

The end cap holes were machined at a 45º angle around the front opening
via snail end mill.
Example of concept found in Patent : "Cooling drinking straw
US 5947378 A"

Experimentation in this vein could lead to the next generation can.

¿Pero quein sabe as the Cisco Kid told Pancho in the old 25ç movies of the 1940s. :)

Not a can for me...

The history of OSS seems to be "LOOK AT THIS AWESOME NEW THING!" "They aren't really impressive." "Yeah, but that was the LAST generation. The new generation is going to blow you away!" Rinse and repeat.

I saw one catastrophically fail after about 4 rounds when we were shooting long range, 18" barrel .308. Funny thing is, the OSS can the shooter was using before catastrophically failed as well.

There's some neat ideas with them, but the cons outweigh the pros for me.

Josh,

Thanks for added G-2.

All information useful.

Somewhere there is " ... there must be a pony in there*". :)

went to see them in person and tried them out. the technology works, they do what they say they do. almost no backpressure, quite neat.

they are truly a marvel of cnc, fantastically complex and beautifully machined.

however i primarily use my suppressors on bolt action rifles, so there's absolutely nothing an OSS gets me over my TBAC 30p1.

So does a piston system w/ an adjustable gas block. I can use a traditional, sealed can and not have to worry about the myriad of parts and/or tiny crevices to get jammed with carbon.
