I am posting this because people from other States passing through Massachusetts with a bump stock could be arrested and face a minimum of 18 months in prison and up to life imprisonment (also trigger cranks which increase firing rate). You have been warned.
The new MA law was signed into law in Friday.
The provision passed by the legislature ... allows for excessive punishment including life imprisonment, with a minimum sentence of 18 months, for the mere possession of these accessories.
The legislation, which would also ban most trigger cranks, provides no “pathway to legal ownership,” for the devices and no ability for current owners to sell them.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

T-Rex wrote:I read the statute. Nowhere did I see life in prison as max penalty. Please, show me where that is stated.
Do you have a link to the original bill and a link to the one that passed?
The OP was just quoting the news article.

T-Rex, OK I did a google search for illegal possession of a machine gun in MA and quickly found the answer for you.
The Bill, MA H4008, defines a bump stock or trigger crank mechanism as a machine gun. So...any pre-existing criminal penalties for a machine gun now apply to a bump stock, etc. See below...
(c) Whoever, except as provided by law, possesses a machine gun, as defined in section one hundred and twenty-one of chapter one hundred and forty, without permission under section one hundred and thirty-one of said chapter one hundred and forty; or whoever owns, possesses or carries on his person, or carries on his person or under his control in a vehicle, a sawed-off shotgun, as defined in said section one hundred and twenty-one of said chapter one hundred and forty, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for life, or for any term of years provided that any sentence imposed under the provisions of this paragraph shall be subject to the minimum requirements of paragraph (a).
The 18 months minimum is elsewhere in that law: so...minimum 18 months in prison and maximum is life imprisonment.
