AAC Aviator on a 10/22, anyone here using that setup?

Post by P99guy »

I picked up a brand new Ruger 10/22 on saterday with the intention of putting a Olive Drab Hogue overmould .920 stock and matte olive green Pac-lite threaded 16.25 inch barrel on it. And now comes time to pick out a muzzle can for it(and start one towards my C3 dealer). I was gravitating toward the AAC Aviator.

Anyone own a Aviator? whats your opinion? Is there one that is better in some way?

It just so happens that I do own an aviator and I have a 10/22 sitting in the safe with the paclite barrel on it. To be truthful I haven't even shot them together. I've had the aviator on my MkII and my pocket rifle the whole time. I will put them together though and get some pictures and shoot them a little.

I can't believe how quiet this silencer is! I had shot it next to a couple outback's and noticed a little difference. But on a 10/22 it is just amazing.

Here are a couple pics I just took:

Disclaimer! I was shooting off of some cheap plastic patio furnature and during the up close videos you can hear the casings hit the table and cause more noise.

This is the ammo used:

Sweet... I was thinking about the exact same setup so I'm glad to see that it works well.

I am planning on buying a 10/22(stock model carbine) and adding a bull barrel and thumbhole stock. I also own a browning buck mark, you just convinced me that my next can will be one that I can use on both. I just want to say I love the .22 round its better than therapy. Rifle, pistol for $20 per 1000 rds it dosnt matter.

Correction: for $18 and change in the right market, you get 1100 rnds of pure enjoyment.

Just bustin balls, but for real, some of the most fun I have shooting is with a .22 and a couple dozen golf balls at an indoor range.

Sorry about the sidetrack. I have'nt had the chance to shoot the aviator, but my pilot along with the 10/22 is a great combo. Plenty quiet for basement shooting or city squirrel hunting so I dont see how an extra baffle or two could hurt matters.

Just for conversation sake, my 10/22 looks a LOT like hs338lapua's, here are the specs-
Ruger 10/22 reciever
Power customs weaver base
weaponscraft bolt buffer
Ruger 10/22 bolt - modifications
Radiused by CPC
Jeweled by CPC
Firing pin "pinned" by CPC
Volquartsen extractor
Volquartsen TG2000 trigger pack
Green Mountain 16.25" Blued, Fluted, Threaded bull bbl
Hogue overmoulded stock
Harris SB?? bipob
weaver quad lock medium height rings
Simmons prairie master 4-16X40 A/O T/T rifle scope

Sorry for the lack of picks, but my digicam is horseshit and I refuse to post anymore pics until I get a new one. And lets be honest, that will cut into the gun budgetso who knows when that will happen. I'll try to borrow one and post up pics.

Sorry about the ramblings, I ve been watching the cubs lose and that aint easy for me.

This has to be one of the hottest .22s I have seen. What would take to make a regular store Ruger 10/22 into this beauty? I have the .22 Quest allready...

And what would the dammage($$$) be ??? Is the pictured barrel threaded for a suppressor? I can't really see if you have a thread protector on or not.

Id say 850 with the scope. I think thats a pretty swell deal. Considering the work in it. Its like 750 just in parts so basically thats a gun for a hundred bucks. Ive only shot about 300 rounds through it and I got the feeding issues fixed. If you want the mags and a speedloader Id say 925. Its go 3 butler creek steel lips mags, 1 ramline mag, and four 10 rounders.

Oh yeah it is threaded 1/2 by 28.

These damn 10/22s can eat your $ quick when you start to customize em,
But there are quiet and cheap fun shooting.
I have the aviator sitting at the dealer that needs a stamp :D
I am using the Quest now and its soooooo quiet, I wonder what the Aviator will sound like.

I have an aviator and use it on a MKIII w/paclite barrel, a 10/22 with a 16 1/8 threaded standard barrel and a 10/22 target with a 20" threaded butler creek bull barrel. Very satisfied with it's performance on all three. PMC subsonic is what I normally use and is way quieter than CCI subs. And if you really want quiet, Aguila red box (no powder) is the way to go, although it won't cycle.
