Greetings. Read this in another thread, talking about an Evo9 and G17:
I also had the opportunity to try a few shots (wet) without hearing protection in a confined area, and it didn't ring my ears.
Is it normal to have to shoot an Evolution 9 wet to not get ringing in your ears without hearing protection?
I have a 2005 P226 9MM, SIG factory threaded bbl, Evolution 9 and when I shoot it dry in an outdoor range with berms around 25 yd away on 3 sides my ears ring.
I am going to try to shoot it wet tomorrow.

Everyone has their own threshold for ringing and pain.
I'd assume the worse your hearing is, the less your ears will ring.
That said, a wet evo 9 is quiet. The dry evo doesn't ring my ears.

My evo 9 will sometimes ring my ears outdoors if there is a wall close or something. The only time I've ever had it ring my ears wet was when I shot it in a pretty confined space, and even then only slightly for a few moments after the shot. I think you will be quite surprised - let us know

I feel that the location that your shooting at can make a big difference in the percieved sound of the silencer. On my Evo-9, as an example, when shooting at the DNR range I usually go to (which is basically a granite canyon), it's kinda loud. When shooting the same set up in a friends open pasture, it's spooky quiet.
My beleif is the sound is trapped and echos in a relatively confined space, making it seem louder. I'm not sure if the actual immediate sound is louder, or if maybe the noise just kinda hangs around longer. Whatever the case, it seems louder at one location than at another.
If you like to shoot your Evo dry, and your ears still ring....I'd suggest wearing earplugs, or shooting wet.

Can we assume you are using 147gr. ammo?
I bought some Special K and it's definately quieter through my Evo-9 with P99.
When I first got my Evo, I made some posts about it sounding loud. I am shooting from a small clearing at/into thick woods, and I have come to the conclusion that the sound is reflecting back towards me making it artificially loud. It will be interesting to hear it once the leaves are gone.

That's my post you're quoting. I fired three shots in a narrow hallway-like area, with solid walls front/back, and open passages on each side. It was fairly loud, but I thought it would be louder, and that my ears would ring, which was why I was a bit surprised. This was with 147 gr. JHPs.
Then again, maybe I'm going deaf...

Your also a vet, and I would assume you've been around a lot louder noises than that. Are you shooting it dry??

Sorry, I strayed from my thread. I only shoot American Eagle 147 gr. ball or Winchester Ranger T RA9T.
Tried a squirt of clear wire pulling gel from home depot and I still had a slight ringing so I put plugs in.

They don't ring my ears dry but if someone said it did, I can imagine it being individual human variation. I can't understand ringing with wire gel in it though. I would have to be there with you though to know if it was the hardware or if we just hear differently.

I did send in the 226 9MM + Evo9 to Freddy and he sent it back saying it shot ok for him. Didn't ask him if he shot it without hearing protection and if it was wet or dry. We played phone tag for a bit, then it fell off of the plate.

You're not alone. Almost any suppressed weapon I shoot (short of a .22 or my SRT integral 9mm carbine) is uncomfortable for me. Shooting my SWR GS9-K2 on my Glock 34 in the middle of open ground with no vertical surfaces still makes my ears ring. The quietest rifle I've shot is my Rem700 with the YHM 7.62 phantom; I can shoot it sans ears without too much discomfort.
