Pumpkin Tax Dodge in New Jersey

In the State of New Jersey, food has a zero sales tax rate, while non-food items pay the high sales taxes.
So...when the NJ resident goes to buy a halloween pumpkin(s), should they pay a sales tax if they are going to display a pumpkin? Technically yes in this case.
What about if they display the pumpkin and roast the seeds for eating? Tough call, I'd say no sales tax because they are eating part of the pumpkin.
This whole pumpkin Tax Dodge wouldn't exist if the legislature had exempted pumpkins from sales taxes as food, whether they are displayed or not.
