What type of property to initially put in the trust?

Post by Average Joe »

Hey,

I'm starting (or thinking about starting) my own trust via the Quicken® method, and I was wondering what would be the best type of asset to place in the trust to start off with. Since this trust is only going to house NFA items exclusively, it seems the most appropriate thing for it to facilitate would be another (obviously, a normal title 1) firearm.

Later on, would having a title 1 firearm and an NFA gun/device in the same trust cause some sort of conflict with each other?
Would it be better to just assign a dollar bill into it?

I'm guessing it wouldn't matter either way, but maybe there's something I'm not aware of...
Sorry for asking such a dumb question, I love finding things to worry about and I’m generally over-precautious about everything.

I'm certainly glad I've found this place, and if all goes well for me you guys can expect many more redundant questions like this from me in the future. :)

Anything with a serial number works well. I went with the ten spot like the others.

Don't see a reason there would be any problems with putting regular guns in there - mine has a bunch of them.

I started mine with a Glock 19. Anything with a serial number. $10 is fine legally of course, a gun just seemed to make it more real for me. YMMV.

I added the AR15 and Remington 870 that I intended to convert to SBR & SBS.

I wanted to use an autographed paper back I have, but I don't think it has it's own serial number.

That would raise red flags. If you're putting it in the trust, you're saying it already exists as a silencer (serialized tube = silencer if you have intent). Nothing good would come of that.
