Alabama 2011-2012 season... No silencers for hunting.

Post by Libertarian_Geek »

Looks like Alabama is going to have another year of hearing damage when hunting:

http://www.outdooralabama.com/hunting/season-limits/

http://www.outdooralabama.com/images/fi ... 282%29.pdf
LEGAL ARMS AND AMMUNITION FOR HUNTING
FULLY AUTOMATIC FIREARMS AND/OR SILENCED FIREARMS PROHIBITED.

GENERAL PROHIBITIONS: It shall be unlawful for any person to use any method or have in their possession any weapon or ammunition contrary to this regulation while hunting or attempting to hunt game birds and animals or other species provided for herein unless expressly provided for by duly enacted laws of the State of Alabama. It shall be unlawful for any person to refuse to submit firearms and ammunition or any device, instrument or accessory used in hunting to Conservation Officers for inspection. It shall be unlawful for any person to hunt with a bow or gun that has a light source attached that is capable of casting a beam of light (including a laser sight) forward of said bow or gun or to possess such a light source adapted for attachment to said bow or gun while hunting. It shall be unlawful to possess any equipment that uses electronics to increase the ability to see in the dark (night vision equipment) while hunting any species of wildlife, both protected or unprotected species.
I'd like to help on getting this changed. Has anyone contacted the CAB yet?

Perhaps see if you can dig up some transcripts and/or letters and supporting documents from the Kansas legislature as they recently legalized suppressed hunting.

Yes, what have others done to get the law changed in their states? Alabama is ready for this. We had the "flip" in the legislature and they are more gun friendly. IIRC, they just legalized SBR's here.

I'm not running over with spare time but I can write a letter. I just don't know the process and it's foolish to reinvent the wheel since the SBR process has been completed. Does anyone know who was involved in getting the ball rolling?

"It shall be unlawful for any person to refuse to submit firearms and ammunition or any device, instrument or accessory used in hunting to Conservation Officers for inspection."

Maybe you should focus on getting your 4th Amendment Rights back first.

The way many States trample all over individual Freedom in the name of protecting game animals is pretty disgusting.

It's all good - I got ear pro. The deer don't care one way or the other.

-----

We got bigger problems, like the recent doctor bill that got shot down - the one that would have prevented MDs from asking questions about whether or not a patient owns firearms, etc. I remember getting the NRA update about that one. We need to raise hell about that one first before we talk about hunting stuff. If you're having range time at the farm and a pack of coyotes comes out on the edge of a field...protect your property and yourself.

I know, who needs a silencer anyway, right?

Actually, I want to know if my MD is a whack-job gun-grabbing liberal. I don't want some tree-hugger socialist making decisions that impact my health. Let him/her ask me and I'll find another doctor. That's how the free market works, it's a wonderful thing. Enough MDs start sticking their noses in where they don't belong, and they'll be left wondering how to pay off their student loans while working elsewhere.

Have you ever spoken with some of the Alabama game-wardens? Some are quite pleasant and friendly, but others are just a jack-boot shy of the gestapo. If you shoot a deer and he doesn't like you, I'll bet that he'll find a grain of corn on the ground somewhere in the county to fine you for hunting over bait. Good luck with that range-time silencer shot at a coyote.

I find the idea of hunting with a suppressor marginally intriguing. However; it's not a necessity for me since I usually only take 1 or 2 deer for the freezer each year. I find deer hunting with a rifle to be a very boring sport and prefer to spend my outdoor time in the tradition of bird hunting for waterfowl and upland game, which requires much more hard work, when done properly, and gives me a higer level of personal satisfaction. I do not require a suppressed shotgun to go shoot a duck or quail. I require only a fine bird dog and a trusty Italian-made shotgun. Good luck with your venture into politics.
