762-SD or 762-SDN-6

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

762-SD or 762-SDN-6

Post by Jinete_Palido »

I have narrowed my search down to these two cans. Hosts will include 20" .308 Win. AR, 16" .308 Win. AR, 16" 6.8 SPC AR, 12.5" 6.8 SPC AR, 10" 300 BLK AR, and eventually a 16" or 20" .308 Win. bolt action. I will also likely use this can on a number of 5.56 AR hosts, mostly with barrels in excess of 16", though potentially on a 10.5" SBR (I have a dedicated 5.56 can for most of my 5.56 shooting).

I understand that the 762-SD is slightly better (sound reduction-wise) on barrels 18" or longer, and that the 762-SDN-6 is slightly better on shorter barrels, and is constructed of higher quality materials (all inconel baffles vs. inconel blast baffle and SS for the reamining baffles). Full auto is not an issue, and I don't do much rapid-fire, mag-dump style shooting.

My question is whether the 762-SDN-6 offers me any real advantage over the 762-SD given my anticipated uses. The 762-SD is cheaper (and I can find it in stock), but I am willing to pay a little more and wait a little longer if there is a real advantage to the 762-SDN-6. Thanks for the input.

Other than longer life on your 10.5" AR, the 'N-6 won't do too much for you other than make your wallet $200 lighter.

Personally I'd go 762-SD with those hosts.

The 'N-6 shines on heavy-use, especially in SBR applications. And the length savings of about an inch are great in those applications.

The 16" 308 you have will be the only one of your current hosts leaning towards the 'N-6. the rest will do just as well with the 'SD.

YMMV
