Anybody looking for a cheap lathe?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Anybody looking for a cheap lathe?

Post by pmchenry »

The company I work for has some machines that came from a plant shutdown that they're looking to get rid of. These have already been written off the books so if anyone is interested, feel free to lowball an offer because chances are they'll take it rather than waste the time looking for a buyer for the lot(Start <$1,000, they can only say no...). Here's the list of model numbers I grabbed while wandering our warehouse:

Tsugami T-SPL-1 Automatic Lathe
3000 RPM Max
42mm Max Collet Capacity

Traub A25 Automatic Lathe(Two of these available)
4000 RPM Max
22mm Max Collet Capacity

Traub TB42 Automatic Lathe
2000 RPM Max
36mm Max Collet Capacity

Traub A36 Automatic Screw Machine
2920 RPM Max
(Couldn't find collet specs on this)

Here is a pdf with the full specs for the Traub lathes: http://pmtmachines.com/pdf/Automat%20%20back.pdf

I am not a machinist, and I don't know anything about these manufacturers or models, so if anyone has experience with these, further info, or recommendations about what is on offer then please feel free to leave your opinions in the thread.

Sorry I don't have pics right now, but if you think you'd be interested I can arrange to have some taken. The machines are heavily used, but were well maintained. They'd be sold as-is of course, but some of them have tooling and accessories that would be included. All have working motors, some recently rebuilt. I can't stress enough that you could probably pick these up for next to nothing (I'm guessing for less than a new bench lathe, and these are high volume manufacturing grade lathes). They're currently located about 35 minutes north of Philadelphia and if you're close you could save a bit by picking them up. Otherwise if you're willing to pay for shipping, they're willing to organize that.

PM me if you're interested in making an offer. If you need a specific question answered that you think would be helpful for others, please leave it in the thread and I'll try to get you an answer. Again, I just noticed these in our warehouse and figured some of you guys might be interested in a good deal. I'm in no way an expert on the equipment but I'll try to get the answers from those who are. Let me know if you're interested!

Am I reading that right?

Two 1000+lbs machine that have a 1" through hole and less than 10" between centers and the other 3200+lbs has ~1-1/2" through hole and 16" between centers? Those sound like some very robust machines!

I hope someone can use them here. Thanks for posting about them.

Thanks! Like I said I don't know anything about machining but figured someone might have a use for em. (Don't have much use for lathes in the accounting department :P)
