Uses for feed bags

Post by bakerjw »

Since I raise chickens I end up with a lot of heavy plastic feedbags. They are made out a material similar to plastic tarps. I hate to throw them away since they are so durable. Any ideas of uses for them?

One I came up with is to use them for sandbags for outside or inside use. We've all seen movies where people duck under the window during a gunfight. Most rounds will easily penetrate standard housing materials. A few sandbags piled below the window sill would afford some level of protection.

That was going to be my exact use, sandbags. The protection thought didn't pop into my head yet, but that's a good use of a sandbag :D

1. Throw gravel or sand in and use for weight over the wheels in the winter. Would have traction matriel if do get stuck.

2. Wadded up they make fair insulation also.

3. Use in place of tarps when camping.

4. Store sleeping bags and such, they are almost water proof.

5. Buy bulk deer (or other animal) feed (corn, ground, ect.) and shovel into easy to handle bags.

There's five options... can think of more if yuo need help.

I've got a bunch of empties saved up myself. Sand bags, definitely a good use. My wife makes shopping/shoulder bags out of them by sewing in adhesive seam tape to make the sewn seems stronger, they hold up really well. I'd imagine they could be used the same way to make bags, pouches and covers for all kinds of things if fabric suddenly became scarce....
