I don't know with your gun but in a 1911, as it has a link design, if you add a weight in your barrel, it will affect its timing in unlocking and locking therefore sacrificing reliability and worse, damaging the locking lugs of your barrel and slide. Maybe your gunsmith is right, change your recoil ...
