Re: 5.56 subs?

For subsonic loadings in bottlenecked rifle cartridges (straghtsided as well) relatively fast burning shotgun/handgun powders is what you need. 3 grains of 3031 ( I tend to believe ) is a sure path to sticking a bullet in your barrel. Powders like Alliant's Red Dot, Blue Dot, Bullseye, and Unique ar...

Re: Glove melted on hot can...how to fix?

Depending on what your glove was made of you could probably get that s--t off with acetone. I put my Uzi back in a rifle case when the suppressor was still too hot and the liner melted to my can. Hoppes No 9 took it off with some ever so light rubbing with a green scrub pad meant for washing dishes....

Re: Brakeout Fouling Issues

I have had the same issue on AAC muzzle devices. I have taken to cleaning them off after every shooting session. I spend about 5 minutes with a welder's brush and knock all the s--t off them prior to them going back in the safe. Thing is, you need to clean the threads inside the silencer as well. Ta...

Re: 45Osprey Disappointment, Am I expecting too much?

The one question nobody's asked is where are you shooting it, indoors or out?

Shooting at an indoor range, just about all cans are loud (22 cans with subsonic ammo being the exception).

For the record, my tirant is quiet (to the shooter) outdoors.

In my garage, it rings my ears every round.

Re: I need help figuring out what went wrong....

The only explanation that I can come up with is that the bullet encountered water and the jacket came apart. I was shooting .40 S&W UMC 180 grain FMJ. Any ideas? In my mind there is no way there was enough water in your can to cause a 180 grain FMJ 40 caliber bullet to "come apart". I...

Re: 223 Can on a 17hmr Thread Length Question

The spacer that Trooper speaks of will only exacerbate the problem that your concerned with reference your Trek and your 17HMR. Your Trek is threaded to support a tenon of .600 inches and your rifle is more than likely has a threaded portion .400 inches long; a spacer wont help protect the exposed t...

Re: 223 Can on a 17hmr Thread Length Question

Is there a safe way to use this can and rifle? Yes, ensure you clean and inspect the threads on you can after using it on a barrel with "short" threads and you should be good. Reference the Op's concern, for those that don't know, standard muzzle tenon length (threaded portion of the barr...

Re: Gemtech Trek-T Thoughts?

I do dearly appreciate my Titanium Trek. I have had it for a couple of years now and it is my most used 223/5.56 can. To my ear it is about as quiet as my AAC M42000 and honestly in the field (while hunting) I cant really tell the difference. That said, I have never fired it on a host with a barrel ...

Re: Surefire baffle strike and warranty experience

ATCDoktor, I get what you're saying about the front sight, but what did you file to get a mount to fit?! Picture? Diagram? I should have clarified that point. As White Dingo has stated, I filed the front sight base on the side favoring the baffles. Essentially the "high" side of the front...

Re: Surefire baffle strike and warranty experience

With regards to the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle and suppressing it, everyone who intends to suppress this platform needs to be aware that there is not a true "shoulder" up front for a can or mount to index on. What you will be tightening the suppressor or mount on will be the front sight bod...

BTW, not that I would do it very often, but has anyone used a Trident 9 for limited full auto use on a dedicated .22 AR upper? It would be fun once or twice..... I use my SWR Trident on my UZI FA and with subsonic ammo it sounds awesome. I ran about 6000 rounds of 22lr through it before I sent it o...

I didnt have any issues with mine and if I recall it looked exactly like that. I also run the full brake. I think I used 2 shims. They say not to use more than 3. I have run a few thousand rounds through it with no issues. Same here. No problem at all shimming and timing the Brake, 1500 suppressed ...

Re: Older Bowers CAC 9 - what are my options?

I don't own a CAC 9 but I do have a CAC 45 and (if it were me) I'd send it back to Bowers for the $150.00 upgrade. There are companies out there that offer custom recore services but I doubt you'll get a quote of anywhere near 150.00 for the service. The versatility of the Bowers cans with their mul...

Re: Hunting with a suppressed .308 Win.

I'll have to figure out how to determine whether the front sight base is square to the bore . Mount your suppressor, look down the bore and you will see real quick whether or not it's aligned. I had to file/stone the face of the front sight base on my GSR to align my suppressor to the bore. One sid...

wondering if the SDN6 /.22-250 combo is a match The answer to your question is "yes". I have used my 762SDN6 on my 220 Swift and it works fine. When using the 762SDN6 on the 220 it's just a skosh louder than my M42K on the same platform. Thats with full power 3750 FPS loads (with a 50 gra...

Re: Design rifle for fox & coyote out to 120yards?

Code: Select all

Are you using a .223 suppressor or do they make caliber specific cans?
The Trek is designed for 223/5.56 and is extremely effective on the 204.

I also use an AAC 762SDN6 on my 243's and it works very very good on that caliber as well.

Re: Design rifle for fox & coyote out to 120yards?

Is that .204 the best compromise between flat shooting and knock down energy? I would say with great confidence that the .204 Ruger is the best compromise reference flat shooting, energy and sound reduction. You get 22-250 trajectory, velocity and accuracy utilizing near 223/5.56 powder charges (if ...

Re: Design rifle for fox & coyote out to 120yards?

Having hunted coyotes and fox for 20 years now I will share that with anything subsonic (regardless of caliber) you will lose some animals the size of fox and coyite without a hit central nervous system. Subsonic rounds (as you may already know) lack the hydrostatic shock associated with traditional...

I will share that my experience with this type mounting (indexing on the muzzle) did have an issue. Re: Trying to thread a .270 Winchester but only have .683"

How does indexing the mount on the muzzle rather than the shoulder differ? The inside face of the mount will "butt" up against the muzzle face. Essentially you tighten your mount to the muzzle of the rifle as opposed to a shoulder on the barrel so the muzzle face (Crown) would have to be ...

I have had 223's and 204 Rugers with .550 muzzle diameters threaded 1/2X28. My barrel guy's have stated that .550 was plenty to give them the "major" diameter needed to perform the job. That said, what was more of a concern to them reference threading muzzles this small was whether or not ...
