Re: Solvent Trap Kit - Local Machine Shop

Hey guys, So I have completed my Form 1 application and notified CLEO. I have to send in fingerprint cards Monday. A shop local to my area offers a really nice-looking "D-Cell" kit and I wanted to get some opinions on it. The shop is known in the community, but I am not sure what the rule...

Re: Solvent Trap Kit - Local Machine Shop

For best results kits must be assembled and finished by skilled labor. Bullet diameter plus .060" is standard bore hole size. .224 +.060 = .284 cones should be bored not drilled. It's really not hard to drill a hole, much less get it close to centered - especially when the part is already star...

Re: What about 3D printed silencers?

Radical Firearms has a Ti 3d printed suppressor that they have had for a while. FA rated, pretty impressive sound suppression. The thing with 3d printing is that you can create much more complicated/intricate internals that would be impossible to machine, even on a CNC.

did you just heat till red hot and then drop the red hot baffle into water to heat treat? or did you do some type of hardening? I've heard of heating till red hot and then burying in crushed charcoal to increase the carbon in the steel, then do the heat and quench I did a fair amount of research on...

My lack of a proper set of tools forced me to be somewhat creative when I made my can for my 10/22. I have part of it connected with J&B Weld. Surprisingly, I have never had an issue with it wanting to come apart at all - probably 10k rounds through it with nary an issue. The tolerances on the p...

I used a 3-d Cell for mine. Cut with a chop saw just behind the button, did a little finishing squaring on it, used a fabricated bushing on the open end and plain old flat washers and spacers. It's big, and probably nowhere near the lightest can out there, but very quiet and the weight doesn't bothe...

When I built my can several years ago, I was extremely limited in terms of tools and knowledge, so I went with a simple design that I knew would be effective, even if it isn't the most efficient or advanced design out there. I ended up using flat washers with spacers - simple, effective, easily main...

I fabricated an aluminum bushing that slipped inside the maglight can I made. I pressed a steel bushing inside of it that was threaded so that I didn't have to worry about screwing any threads up. I used JB Weld as a secondary measure of keeping the aluminum and threaded bushing in place. No problem...

I tried Breakfree CLP the other day just to see if it would work or not. Surprisingly, it worked extremely well. Doesn't last as long as water does, but it also made cleaning after the shoot considerably easier.

When I was playing around with designs for my .22lr can I tried one with flat baffles.. oof it was loud. Course, they had no texture/etc. my last design was angled baffles with waves milled in with a 3/16" bit. I ended up going with a monolithic baffle stack (one piece of material, just mill o...

Hey guys. First off, I'm new to the whole silencer thing. Amazed with the amount of thought put into these. My question is, the end opposite the endcap, the part that you attach to your weapon with the threads, how do you keep that inside the maglite body, keep it from sliding out? All I did was ma...

Hybrid: The mechanics of a suppressor or silencer are very much like that of a muffler. Here's a crash (and very basic course): When you discharge a firearm, two main things happen. The first is the sound produced by the gunpowder burning, and the resultant sound of the "explosion" at the ...

I used a 3 d-cell maglite for mine. That's what the picture above on the 300 Whisper looks like, but it could be a longer one. a 3 d-cell should be about right on most applications. 2 cell is a little too short, and I would imagine that a 4 cell would be a waste of space and unecessary weight.

I don't have any pictures of it right now. I might take a couple this weekend and upload them. There is nothing special or majic about my particular setup. It's old technology, but it was something I wanted to do just for fun. It's a simple M baffle design, with machined washers and machined spacers...

I have a can made from a maglite 3 d-cell tube. It works well, especially considering that it is relatively primitive in terms of baffling. I had a machinist buddy of mine fabricate a slip end that is the same OD as the can and has about 1" of slip. That fitting houses my threads. I used the fa...
